Looking at the huge backlash against the XBox One in most gaming forums, it seems so, although there is a strong self-selection bias there.

The distinction between "hardcore" and "casual" is blurry, but even more important, seems to be heavily emphasised by self-called "hardcore" gamers and widely ignored by most "casual" gamers. Self-called is the key term here. With very few

Also, I wonder if emulation of these newer systems, which is a special kind of retrocompability, will be feasible. It seems that the PS3 and XBox360 are already hard to emulate, not only because of complex hardware but because of all the an

No, you're getting it wrong. It's not a matter of availability (although that is still a problem in certain areas). I just don't want my console to need connection if I don't play online, because it shouldn't need it, because it's a waste

Absolutely this. I used to be passionate, in the first months of my (poorly paid) first job. I won't commit the same mistake again, I learned quickly that life is more important than work.

They require you to write the function for use with templates; as long as the callee is ready to use templates, you can pass anything that fits the interface needed. Everything is done at compile time. You can use a generic type as argument

And don't forget about people who don't like to specialize, yet wouldn't like to be anywhere near business administration. The idea of being only a programmer seems to me as depressing as running a business. It's just not for me; there ar

You can use duck typing (without losing the compile time type checking) in C++ using templates. Somehow they get a lot of bad press, but for me they're one of the key features of C++.

Wow, that's sad. Are we really so blind when it comes to cancer research? I recall that oncology journals usually have a ludicrously high impact index (as ludicrously as 5 digit IIRC); that means there are a lot of citations, which is an in

Yet another article asking for the abolition of the 40 hour week. It's very telling that the article stresses disadvantages of the 9-to-5 model for the enterprise or for getting the work done, but it doesn't list the effect, disadvantageous

No captive market can ever be a free market. And everything health-related is a captive market, because you can't afford not to pay for the service.

The problem is that there are a lot of employers trying to ditch 9-to-7 in order to institute 9-to-whenever-they-please (hint: don't expect daylight after exiting the office, not even in summer). Wide acceptance of 9-to-5 means guarantee of

It's a good thing we have that new perspective. Here in Spain there is no independent press at all. You have the "left" press and the "right" press. Each one talks wonders about their preferred party and throws shit at the others. So you ha
