We would need to detect it in time, have an interceptor fast enough to rendezvous with it, and also with enough payload to nudge it off course. Seems quite difficult with current technology

People keep saying "half the runway", "more than half the runway" in this thread. The linked article has a large graphic saying the plane touched down about a third of the way down the runway.

That might still be OK if that path literally should never happen in normal operation, but us used, e.g., to handle an error, or at least log it, if the impossible happens because the software is deployed in some unexpected configuration
