Neat, looks like JS is getting SIMD speedups because of fixed type objects. Would really love to see the speedup on fixed tuple transforms and convolution algorithms. When I saw JS speed wars originally, I started writing an adobe curve app

This is a lisp engine written in python - RPython, to be precise. It literally compiles the lisp code into python bytecode, which is pretty neat - sort of like clojure is for the JVM. https://github.com/pixie-lang/pixie

Future objects are the simplest way to write these workloads because they map directly to a very simple 2-step model 1) I want this, get started 2) I'll check when I need this, then I'll wait This is what I do when I want to order

Variable pay is also paid in bulk at the end of the year. There are people I know who just struggle through to stick around till that pay day, particularly when the winter days are long and painful to get through at work. That works for ret

I would allow that for some definition of "too-big". I wrote a distributed grep impl a few years back to grep my logs and collect output to a central machine (a vague "how may machines had this error" job). The central o

I think Uber got hurt in India because they used a foreign exchange transaction for moving money between a buyer and seller present in India. Money was being moved through USA, to avoid adhering to India's jurisdiction on Credit Card c

The incentives are setup that way. If I were a VC with money from clients with me, telling them that I'm holding out for a good investment is a great way to lose them next year. Money un-invested is stale capital that will definitely n

Ignoring POSIX has its own pains. The only way to maintain sanity is to use an abstraction like libev (or libevent) - when you find a bug, report it upstream and roll your own builds till it gets into CentOS. Like the memcached proxy (Moxi)

I think there is some conflation between "being rich" and "following your passion". Being able to do what you want to do is not some reward at the end of a tunnel. Very unfortunately, you are what you repeatedly do. It i

I set that on the laptop actually - android's TTL is 64, so +1 hop is 65. I'm sure they could filter that if I upgraded my phone & the tether got a different gateway host (like in the blog).

I found out that setting the IP TTL of my machine to 65 usually bypasses most tethering checks in most ISPs. Like T-Mobile has a special case where they allow :443 from tethered hosts, while disallowing :80. That disappears when the TTL is
