Yes, I did. There's a lot of people who will ignore his caveat and try to use these optimizations where they don't belong. I see it a lot and it's painful. Hence the "throw it out the window" advocacy.

Yes, yes, yes, yes. I am SO TIRED of seeing pre-optimizations from people who should know better. These optimizations are a neat FYI. But they do not belong anywhere near the business logic of a production app. If you have a massive app (do

Exactly right. The "big picture" argument is nonsense. The whole reason abstractions exist is so you can focus on solving problems with a minimal understanding of the minutia. That's how a "real programmer" does it,

Shocking! Google's started supporting more languages than just the ones they care about. I really hope this signals the death of their disdain culture. Being a worthwhile Cloud provider means hiring experts in all sorts of languages an

This reminds me of my main concern with GraphQL, namely that I could never find a good example showing how you weave security within a request. The examples I saw made me feel uncomfortable. Like, the client requests progressed further than

Google's largely moved away from those BS questions. They just bias towards people who memorize answers on Leetcode, but aren't actually capable of producing anything.

Expert? No. But I did work with many industry experts while at Honda. I've heard plenty on the topic of engines/mpg. Thanks for playing!

Uh, wat. Honda engines are insanely efficient. I doubt this guy knows anything that Honda/Toyota doesn't. Honda could easily give you a 100mpg car, if it weren't for those meddling kids at the NHTSA. Damn them and their stupi

Do not work a second job. You'll do neither job well and will never move up or be seen as reliable. You'll also burn yourself out. To make over $250k, the more common path is to make (roughly) what you're making now and get t

Your complaint is more about implicit vs. explicit. Implicit behavior is bad when it's surprising. When it's what you would have done anyway, then making it explicit creates an unthinking, tedious ceremony that you repeat daily. S

CSV.open also uses a file handle (and takes a block). So File.open would be redundant. A fun hack is to use the threach library (threaded each) on the CSV object. Used with JRuby you can run on all cores to quickly process a large file, whi

I hate squashing branches. There's a lot of value in commit messages; they're educational and are a form of documentation. It's on the developer to squash the "oops" commits, during a rebase, rewriting the commit me
