Its pretty normal in a lot of places in the US as well to only actually serve 40-60% of a sentence.

One important factor is that folks who use SAP (or other enterprise software) get really good and fast at using it. Any changes to the UI and you have a major revolt on your hands. Not with SAP but having been a part of a project to modern

That is definitely true, however I would hardly classify a private in the army as "middle class".

Fair enough, but the article did mention how much worse the Indian troops under their command had it. So seems odd that they wouldn't mention the British troops as well.

For every officer living the privileged life described in this article there were dozens of rank and file British troops, who certainly had no servants, or any of the other described comforts and luxuries. No mention of them?

An attack doesn’t mean death or severe injury. There have been plenty of attacks but they pretty much all have resulted in no injuries.

It’s a myth that they never attack humans in the wild. As with most shark attacks it seems to be a case of mistaken identity. Since orcas are significantly more intelligent though they usually retreat before any real harm is done. https:

While nobody ever seems to want to hear it, the vast majority of companies utilizing service meshes and k8s are wasting huge amounts of time and money on things they don’t need. Unfortunately these technologies are at peak hype so everyone

One thing is the general desire to separate your email from Google. Apart from that I find their webmail to be faster and superior to Gmail. They also provide file storage with WebDAV access which I find useful for apps (like notes applica

I always ask recent graduates about interesting courses they took. Not so much to meet some kind of criteria, but to start a conversation about something in CS that interests them. Helps to see how passionate they are about their field.

That’s somewhat different. Individual engineers are more analogous to the crew working on a particular production. They for the most part are not in a position to use their authority to sway the production. Unlike say a famous writer, ac

These threads are always interesting on HN. I'm not going to pass judgement on folks who think they its ok or not ok to pirate media based on cost or sometimes how difficult it is to obtain "legitimately". What I do think is

To some extent I agree. PMs should be working closely with users and stakeholders to see how to improve the system. However UX professionals tend to take a more scientific approach to experimenting and analyzing user behavior.

Asking people what they want is a very small part of it. You research by watching how users interact with the system, then you take risks by experimenting and seeing if changes improve the outcomes or not.

Unfortunately in most companies those who wear the UX title are just UI designers. Real UX is about researching and performing experiments on how your customers interact and use your software. So you can make proven decisions on how to de

What id love to see more is blurring the line between user and designer. Too often software gets in the way of the user and simple tweaking to an interface etc. can make a world of difference. Unfortunately this is usually either not possi

It’s incorrect to say that the only attacks have been in captivity. There have been a couple of documented “attacks” on humans in the wild. One which required extensive stitches. It is true that there there have been no documented deaths

To be fair Comcast these days shows you a breakdown of the full cost of the service you are signing up for, which you have to accept. So the fees should not be a surprise. Would I prefer it was all included in the advertised price, absolu

Bankruptcy in the UK is significantly different than in the US where companies often continue to operate under Chapter 11 in a way that may not be noticeable to customers. The UK as far as I know doesn’t offer such protections.
