Even if up to 30% of casualties were civilian this would still be quite a surgical strike in my opinion. At 50% I would not say so anymore. Nobody knows yet anyways.

I don't like CO2 emissions being framed as harming the planet. They harm the human economy in the long run.

What are you basing this one? The one thing that is very clearly stated up front is that this innovation is based on reinforcement learning. You dok't even have a good idea what the CoT looks like because those little summary snippets

Occam's razor is that what they literally say is maybe just true: They don't train any safety into the Chain of Thought and don't want the user to be exposed to "bad publicity" generations like slurs etc.

There is a hige difference which is that thex use reinforcement learning to make the model use the Chain-of-Thought better.

It becomes thinking when you reinforcement learn on those Chain-of-Thought generations. The LLM is just a very good initialization.

Certain categories of youtube videos can also be viewed as some sort of game where the actions are the audio/transcript advanced a couple of seconds. Add two eggs. Fetch the ball. I'm walking in the park.

What I understand is the folloeing: If this works so well, why didn't we have good video generation much earlier? After diffusion models were seen to work the most obvious thing to do was to generate the next frame based on previous fr

But at some point after the company has been sold again and again someone will want to actually make money off of that. At aome point the wheel gets turned around and this huge investment should be milked. Otherwise it doesn't make sen

WordArt makes word stand out. I'm certainly not the only one that some spent hours playing with WordArt as a child. That means I grew up being familiar with word. Maybe it increases the number of users in the long run.

I think it's not that simple. It's always confusing to talk about Turing machines and the requirement of infinite memory vs. the reality of finite memory. I think "Turing completeness" is not so obvious to define rigorou

Yea that's fair, but I don't think it will keep sucking forever as formalization is in principle just a translation process.

Mathematicians spend most of their time interpolating between known ideas and it would be extremely helpful to have computer assistance with that.

Why? Why is hype bad? What actual harm does it cause? Also the headline is fair, as I do believe that AlphaProof demonstrates an approach to mathematics that will indeed invade mathematicians workspaces. And I say that as a mathemstician.

I believe you are misreading this. First of all, this is not a sport and the point is not to compare AI to humans. The point is to compare AI to IMO-difficulty problems. Secondly, this is now some hacky trick where Brute force and some theo

I would expect that in their data which they train AlphaProof on they have some concept of a "vague problem" whoch could just look like {Formal description of the set in question} = ? And then Alphaproof has to find candidate desc

This is the real deal. AlphaGeometry solved a very limited set of problems with a lot of brute force search. This is a much broader method that I believe will have a great impact on the way we do mathematics. They are really implementing a
