Pragmatically, I believe the threat is that someone has managed to install some malware on your phone/computer/... you are 2FA logged in. If so, then the bad guys can disable 2FA on your account without you having to prove the 2FA

+1. I believe a lot of (if not most) people come to the US not only for the education system, but to have a good chance of getting the green card and eventually citizenship. I don't think that's bad for any party - the US gets acc

Agree. I wonder what is the rationale for all this. Other than plain old xenophobia. Will this reduce pandemic ? No, it will incentivize colleges to offer in-person classes promoting COVID. Will this reduce students on non-immigration visas

https://egbg.home.xs4all.nl/counterscript.html has a decent resource on how to handle these kinds of calls (if you choose to engage at all). One should really have a printout ready to use at all times.

I feel the same about induction cooktops. They all come with crappy electronic control boards and can only regulate approximately in 20 degrees Fahrenheit steps with an internal temperature probe. I just want one without the control board t

Second this! I was soo excited about the Google App Maker as the cloud equivalent, but of course, they shelved the product and will turn it of Jan 19th 2021. The alternative they are touting, "AppSheets", isn't really the sam

I don't understand the premise. Why would one expect to be able to interact with the world without any consequences ? That makes little sense, philosophically, at least to me. Even hosting via Tor can have consequences, if the governme

As cool as these Vic-20 and C64 clones are, I think it would be even awesomer to have a small MCU with HDMI booting into a micropython IDE. Of course, this mostly loses some luster when the hardware isn't as completely open/docume

It's an interesting article. I'm not sure I agree with it 100% - I would say a lot depends on the larger picture and incentives. Right now, there is a huge incentives to create "narrow AIs" because they help improve prod

I find crunchbase, owler, linkedin etc overpriced, and they don't really have that great data especially on emerging startups - there's few hard data points they have, and some bias towards companies who volunteer their data (or i

Yup, the private entity would have to make a deal with the EU to only send OKed passengers on a plane (and crew, too). It's not that hard. And while tests are not foolproof, it's probably "safe enough". I wonder why this

My guess is that there is a huge opportunity for some private entity to do Abbot-style 15 minute tests on arriving passengers (like global entry). Pay $100, check out negative, good to go. Maybe the airlines themselves could do it, seeing

Sure, but there’s someone managing a budget and has to decide to either hire 2 good cops or 1 expensive bad cop. The next step might be that departments have to publish their insurance rates, like the recent hospital bill law.

Given the amount of work going into custom DIY mechanical keyboards, it's surprising that there aren't DIY solutions out there. All you need is a $5 MCU (think ESP32) and a cheap display. Would make a fun side project :)
