Friends installed a new IR controlled ceiling light, but it was a little buggy and kept turning off. It was using the same IR frequency as one of the buttons on the TV remote :)

Brings back memories. My first ever email was sent via a local BBS and relayed via Fidonet to the authors of WinZIP, asking them if they plan to support creating multispan arj archives on disk first so I can copy them and FDDs and be able

Did you do the KNX setup yourself or did you leave that part to a professional?

I've been eyeballing this problem space for a while now and came to the exact same conclusions as you did, KNX for everything "important" + Home Assistant for nice to haves. Just waiting for the build a house/completely

Have a look at https://jameshfisher.com/2017/08/04/golang-dns-server/ DNS is actually pretty simple if you don't want to implement DNSSEC.

That of course depends on how popular your videos becomes, but for the 99% videos I would say none since you already pay for hosting your web site.

I've been using Mikrotiks for over a decade, they just work and are pretty cheap. They do require you to know a little bit more about networking then the regular, end user oriented, routers. Only negative I would mention is that some t

Quite a few of these can be set in the HTTP headers as well, but people editing templates don't always have access or know how to do it. BTW; not all UTF-8 text has a byte-order mark, I would say most of them don't.

I am not seeing anything on your example. But necessary cookies are things without the site can not function (like logging in). I suppose most of the time the box is there to allow you to consent to additional cookies as well. There are als

They see the destination IP you are connecting to, usually behind one IP is only one web site. ESNI doesn't matter unless you are connecting to a site on a shared host.

They know the personal IP as well since it's being passed in the "X-Forwarded-For" header by nginx. Having a local recursive resolver with the Client Subnet in DNS Queries turned off would be better for privacy.

You can also turn that statement around. Customers have paid Comcast to access the internet (Netflix) and Comcast didn't want to upgrade his peering with backbone providers forcing Netflix to pay them interconnection. In this case Comc

The amount of legacy applications being run on the internet is huge. Breaking stuff would put a great financial burden on the companies running those. It is a sensible approach IMHO. What kind of bad stuff are you talking about? If you talk

You need a bouncer if you need access to history, that is a deal breaker for most people. Also, being able to ping somebody via a push message on their mobile is also a nice thing when working in a remote team. Apps on mobile are also not t

If a provider is offering free and paid plans, free plan is usually used to attract customers to try your service. The free plan is "paid off" with money that would otherwise go to marketing.

If you have a Certificate Authority in your trust store, than any certificate signed by that CS is trusted by your system. That is why Google uses key pinning for their services and a list is hardcoded in Chrome, AFAIK.

Using FB on my 2014 Macbook Pro is slow as hell and my CPU starts heating up causing the vents to spin up. It has nothing to do with the round trip latency, the CPU is pegged.

Fail2ban has issues when you have a lot of IPs blocked in memory. The solution I came up with to this problem is to use a custom ban action that adds an IP to the blocked ipset list with a given TTL, but set fail2ban to think that the IP ha
