Great book! For anyone reading this on-screen, I created a tex file that adds a PDF outline, for easier navigation: https://gist.github.com/goerz/4c863a2fde1d3357113b95643d0ace...

How a map at +4 or +6 degrees may or may not look is pretty far from "grade school", and definitely requires sources. I agree that the map in the parent comment doesn't meet my standards for scientific accuracy, due to lack o

It’s not a joke. What are you talking about? 56 million years ago (Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, the last time temperatures were six degrees higher? Or, back when earth was a molten rock of lava? That’s completely irrelevant to this dis

I suppose new development would happen as part of luatex. It would be really nice if latex could compile to more accessible documents!

I find Texpad to work great in principle, although I get frustrated by any text editor that is not vim. If you have the ability to sideload (that is, you have a developer account), there is a fork of iVim ( https://github.com/

The Overleaf website is a bit painful to use on an iPad. Hopefully, this will change with the "desktop-grade" Safari announced for iOS 13. Maybe someone already running the beta could test this?

Overleaf has excellent offline support through its git interface (or Dropbox, if you prefer).

+1 on Texpad. It also integrates extremely well with File Providers. You can clone a repo of your TeX project on Working Copy, and then link the entire checkout folder in Texpad. Then, just edit and compile in Texpad, and switch back to Wor

You don’t have to put yourself at any risk, but if you work in a secure facility, you are usually explicitly required by contract to “play policy police”. That is, report any security violation like someone jumping the turnstile, or not hav

There’s no need to confront anybody. Just notify security immediately if you see someone go through a security gate without swiping their access card, or if they tailgate you.

Same here. Replaced Dropbox with Resilio Sync. It's really beyond the pale to retroactively cripple existing accounts. And their website still claims "Sync files across devices" as a feature for free accounts, which I'd

You don’t have to switch. You can install anaconda using pyenv, to get the best of both worlds.

The problem isn't having limits on the free tier. The problem is changing the services for existing accounts (free or otherwise), in this case to completely cripple free accounts. I wouldn't even complain if they only applied th

Why wouldn’t they? They have in the past. I myself would have considered upgrading to a paid account if I’d needed more space then what I got from referrals. Now, I’ll stay away from them out of sheer spite for being treated in such a backh

Of course there’s no legally binding agreement. It’s still a shitty move to renege the conditions of an existing account.

I expect them to honor the agreement I had with them when originally signing up with them, and promoting them to others (earning 20GB of storage through referrals). If they want to reserve new features for paid accounts, fine, but don’t cri

I’ve been evaluating Resilio Sync as an alternative to Dropbox these past few weeks. The main problem I’ve come across is the extreme amount of RAM this program needs. Their website says they require 2kB RAM for every indexed file, which is

What I mean by "round-tripping" is that I would have to be able to read a .f90 file into an AST structure, then write out the tree to a new file, and end up with the exact same file content as the original. This would be a prereq

Does Antlr support an annotated parse tree that would allow for round-tripping? I didn't see anything in the documentation, at a quick glance. Even then, formulating a grammar (especially one that also catches whitespace and comments)
