Processors have had BCD (binary coded decimal) instructions since the earliest 8-bit micros. They usually deal with 0-99 and then you have to add digit by digit but it can handle carry propagation.

There were certainly polarizing events in the past. Canada has no shortage of important events including the Quebec referendum. But i've never felt like i was under continuous pressure from one news cycle to the next.

Banks, Enterprise management, ... these are all guarding extremely valuable assets so i considered them security websites (not sure what is more security relevant other than the master email account we all have). They are written in a way t

There’s many security sites that load tons of external scripts. My bank is one such example. Even if those third party trackers and such are trustworthy there remains the whole supply chain attack consideration.

I remember things about a generation ago. It wasn’t always rosy; some unacceptable things were causally said. But, there seemed to be less hate for the other team. We seem to live in a hyper-polarized world exemplified by the shift in late

UML is dying though. I remember being grilled during job interviews on OOP design questions with UML and all those obscure details. I hate it. But now even the embedded world is more about API contracts with system designs and data stores.

> The wrong type of super-long-tenured engineer is just going to be defensive and full of excuses about why something was built one way, even when the pain of using what they built is dragging down the whole organization. Haha. So true.

How much enterprise software have you used over the years that has terrible quality? Vision and execution matter a lot in user experience and doubly so for security.

I’ve always wondered how many of our problems with technical debt are self inflicted by trying to design for some future that may never exist. Simple, direct, and declarative code with tests are very maintainable.
