I have no idea what people are complaining about in this thread. I find projects like this genius. I love making programming languages and I hate hate hate writing parsers, yet I enjoy experimenting with different syntax. Stuff like this is

If the government is in the business of collecting tax from 300+ million people and has power to punish these people if they don't, government already is in the business of writing tax software.

I fail to understand why this is such a big problem in non-professional settings. Yes, if I do a nice gesture to my boss I do not want him to assume this is the new normal, and I'm expected to do this nice thing on a regular basis. If

Even if this were true my point (2) still stands. But it really isn't true because spec is part of the code. If your formalism is wrong, irregardless of whether implementation is correct, your code will behave wrong. There is absolutel

I write code in Agda (a proof assistant) for a living and this is rarely true. Because (1) even if you prove your program is correct as per spec it doesn't prove it's correct according to user/PM since spec can/will be b

Would someone be able to help me understand what is 'Libre Cloud'? Even if your code is released under AGPL or something like that what guarantee do you get that software running and not that plus a tiny delta? So how can cloud be

Exactly! I'm currently going through this process. I'm just pointing out that "quit your job" is not always an option. Regardless of how burnt out I am, I'm still gonna show up to work tomorrow and do as much as I f

It's a bad habit since it encourages commenting before reading the submission. But I do the same thing as well, and it's not clear to me how someone could do otherwise without spending extraordinary time on HN. I find HN a very va

It's not clear to me if this is predictive. E.g. HN has been right about AMD. Years ago when people were talking about AMD it was worth peanuts and look at it now. I don't think it's a case of a group of people being right&#x

Human doesn't need to see the material. One can automate this by crawling websites with known bad material and compute hash of all images. Surely some of those hashes are CSAM, we don't know which. But it's still equally dang

Why is this definition useful in astronomy? Why can't they just say something like "non period 1 element" (NPO element) in order not to cause accidental confusion with other branches of science?
