I can see how that reasoning is an argument for gun ownership. How does it apply to carrying guns in public, especially concealed guns?

I honestly think we should be pretty strict about following licenses to the letter. No-one who creates open-source software has the time to hand-hold all their users and make sure they are in compliance, so we should help them out.

When I ran an ssh server on port 22 (with root login and password login turned off), I would see quite a lot of random log-in attempts using root and various stupid passwords. When I switched to some other port, they stopped. Less noise in

Yes, that would be the real-world scenario. As I understand it, CR were tracking exactly how much they charged the Tesla at their office (in w, I guess). And he didn't want to mess with that. He also wanted to test the "projected range".

Keepassx is a cross-platform version of KeePass 1 - they're using the file format from another (legacy) program, and I doubt they can change it. I use KeePass2 myself. It uses a new file format, and it's .net, runs well under mono on linux.

I'm the maintainer of the archlinux AUR pkgbuild - a better build system would be much appreciated :) For now, I do 3-4 sed invocations over your various Makefiles. If you want to have a look at what we need to hack our way around, take a l

Invisible GUI elements seems to be all the rage these days. I don't get it - why would you want it invisible, even if you're using touch? (this goes for special "swipe-in" stuff too, not just for the start menu)

I'm sure I could get used to win8 quite quickly. I'll probably install it next time I upgrade my windows PC. But admit it - you had no idea how to shut down your computer in win8 until someone told you.

One of the most important things that's about to happen for PHP security, is deprecating the 'mysql' extension[1], which doesn't support prepared statements. Forcing cheapo web hosts to enable mysqli or PDO will hopefully help a great deal.

Only if you use their (very nice) event/property system. If you don't inherit from QObject then you generally don't need the preprocessor. That said, QMake and CMake both deal with the preprocessor for you.

But it isn't obvious at all this is happening. The original issue here was a stuck application, and the user didn't know how to get it unstuck. I don't think "do something else for a while, it'll sort itself out" is a good response.

I disagree. In windows XP, Vista and 7, if you click the magical red X on a misbehaving program, Windows will offer to kill if after something between 5-50 seconds. Non-tech-savvy users _do_ use that functionality.

My first thought upon seeing your site (which looks really good), was "what do I type in the search box?" Are you looking for location? Type of property? Both? Something else? Show an example search.

It's fairly standard to talk about how much auxiliary space an algorithm needs - in sorting, for example. I guess that's what the author means.
