If by offender you mean the bot, then I'm confused. The bot asked for robots.txt in a plaintext format. The bot was delivered some binary garbage that it couldn't parse. The bot continued to ask for an updated robots.txt, and co

That's really fair criticism. OP, if you're still reading, please don't take anything I wrote here as an attack on you. Instead, it was meant to be a reflection on your situation from someone who struggles with many of the sa

Well, if you actually asked what the goals of the manager's proposed evaluation/comparison were, great! If you had probed around the context of the discussion a little bit by asking some open questions like "So why did this a

When these stories come up, I would like to hear enough context that enables me to understand whether or not Stripe is behaving reasonably. I understand Stripe takes customer privacy seriously, but even so it would be great to get the missi

For HN'ers outside the UK who might be put off by the Godwin above: People here really do have strong opinions about Brexit, one way or another. It has been a central part of the news for many years now, and it has increasingly real im

Currently, a GP1-S instance in PAR3 is 3.3x the price of PAR1. After these price changes, it will "only" be 1.5x as expensive. I'm not sure whether this will be enough to have the desired effect of increased PAR3 utilisation.

I make 340Tbit/sec about 1.1x10^11 GiByte/month. GCP premium tier networking is priced at $0.08/GB, so at 80% load that cable would, very naively, have the potential to bring in $7B/month in revenue. I'm sure they

Using pop-up shops as a front for grift of some kind is as old as the hills. In the 90s/00s it was tanning salons, then hand car washes in the 00s/10s. Nail bars, vape shops and those weird places with the feet-eating fish should
