"Cheap plastic" is not a meme. People have compared build quality as long as manufactured goods have existed. Many people associate heavy with valuable because traditionally, making things out of metal cost more and increases durability. Ma

I think many iPhone fans see WP7 as an attempt to innovate, whereas Android seems more like an attempt to imitate (of course, Android has had many innovations as well). Apple made the first usable and popular touchscreen smartphone, and And

Hundreds of thousands of apps on App Store and Android Market says you're wrong. It's true that many of them require an online account, but many don't. Excluding that, there's still lots of free software.

You're OK with targeted advertising, but you're probably not OK with any number of other things Facebook and others may one day do with your personal information. Or if _you_ are, I think many, many people are not. They use Facebook because

I think the biggest difference was that it was the first smartphone that was easy to use. That convinced regular people to start buying smartphones (and use smartphone features).

Nothing on the internet is guaranteed. Everything is at some point a leaky abstraction. While it's possible for a mail to just disappear (or more often, automatically be sorted into a spam folder) the protocol is designed to be quite robust

If they can build iPhones in Brazil, why can't they build iPads in the US? That it's not cost effective to do so now doesn't mean that this will always be the case. The US has high import taxes on lots of stuff, if they raised them on elect

If most trojans and viruses are still made for Windows, how can this statement not be true? If you took a random sampling of infected websites or virus emails, the large majority would probably be targeted at Windows. Actual risk of a _targ

Don't know about the Android app, but in the iPhone app the executable is 3.5MB, and the rest of the 13MB app is mostly made up of PVR files (Edit: "PowerVR Texture Files", it seems) and various images. I've never thought about 13MB as a "b

That must be why Apple is still providing cheap OS upgrades for my four year old Mac. Or maybe they're smart enough to realize that I might not buy their products again if they were obsoleted as soon as possible?

You said "...Agile, or any other process...", so you're explicitly not limiting your statement to Agile methodologies. Do you think _slower_ (as in taking longer to develop) software is the only outcome of the processes that avionics softwa

The software that keeps all modern airliners in the sky is written by companies that have lots and lots of process. Do you think those software projects are doomed from the jump just because there's a lot of process involved?

While I'm impressed with WP7, it's not such a big leap forward like the iPhone was when it launched. That's the big problem for Microsoft. The Zune HD was pretty nice when it launched as well, but it wasn't compelling enough to displace the
