How often do you expect to replace an item like an iPad? I'd expect one to last at least 2 years.

One meta-analysis of studies, for example, found that "discrimination against blacks was more likely to occur when potential helpers had more opportunities to rationalize decisions not to help" by invoking "justifiable explanations having

It seems to me that this argument boils down to whether a comment on HN is more akin to conversation (ie. somewhat less formal), or information. My personal opinion is that with the rise of globalisation and non-native English's prevalence

I tend to rely on http://www.regular-expressions.info/email.html when coming to validate an email address. I do often fall into the trap of trusting the framework's built-in email validation to be correct. Apparently, this is the regex to

Is it? I was under the impression that there's very few hosts/libraries that don't have PHP5 support now.

I would expect NLTK to have a fairly broad user base too, although possibly the community is less likely to be involved in the broader python landscape.

"Worse" in this case is subjective. Perhaps firefox today is objectively not as good for me (as a developer) as it was at 1.0. My argument is that I'm not necessarily the main target demographic any more, Firefox 3.6 is fast enough and has

I've never heard of it, or seen it referenced on any design blog, or seen any marketing of it whatsoever. I'm not necessarily claiming that I'm an accurate sample of the web development/design community, but it certainly seems to be pretty

My university offers degrees in both Comp Sci and Software Eng. Over the course of a 4 year undergraduate masters programme I think we took maybe 3 different modules (where a module is 1/12th of a year).

I'm, in the UK. My employment contract is quite specific on these things. The company owns any IP I produce, and I'm forbidden from working on side projects... without permission from my manager. So given permission (in writing) to start a

The idea of restricting your width to [a number] makes sense for the tiling reasons mentioned by the other commenters. However, since everyone is shipping widescreen monitors (which I think means UI design should stop making tall toolbars,

I'd say that in the 10 or so years since firefox 1.0, the average computing power and requirements of the firefox user have shifted enough that the goalposts have moved. Firefox 1.0's USP at a time when browsers were bloated was its lack of

I don't agree with your assessment of python closures. Just because you have to name all inner functions doesn't mean they're not proper closures.
