I am fan of Acunote http://acunote.com Not surprising since that is my startup :-) It's tailor-made for a software startup, includes SVN integration and is free for <= 5 users.

Anna Schwartz - Bernanke Is Fighting the Last War http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122428279231046053.html?mod=... "The Fed," she argues, "has gone about as if the problem is a shortage of liquidity. That is not the basic problem. The bas

Expensive to maintain -- agreed except on the Vette. And you'd want winter tires in a cold place. But for all of them, the difference is less than depreciation on a new $50k car. Ferrari is different of course, but $25k of depreciation (

Buy used. $50k used car is a better deal and a better car than $50k new car. Car is an asset, and its total cost of ownership has less to do with its price than where it is in its depreciation curve. $50k new car means $10-15k depreciati

It's an opinion piece. It's not even Journal's opinion, but the author's. Opinion pieces are basically rants and should read as such, whether or not they are correct at the core. This is easier with paper edition, where the context is mu

Replace "hiring" with "dating" and the article still works. Replace the whole article with "establish rapport with" and it still works. People are good with judging people.

Beautiful link bait. Seriously, it's a really clever idea. Fortunately/unfortunately Google frowns on link bait unrelated to the core business of your site: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/widgetbait-gone-wild so this is definitely somewhere

I don't believe Debian ever managed to deal with 3rd party package management tools well. E.g. XEmacs has its own package management and apt-get equivalent, and it never worked right in Debian. It's fundamentally hard problem to support d

The referrer information disclosure is a very good point. In general, I kind of wish that browsers did not include Referrer headers when going from https page to a page on a different domain (e.g. https://wiki.yourcompany.com/competitors/

This is the business newspaper of record from the land of Margaret Thatcher. That they endorse Obama is not surprising, but that they don't mention a concern with his tax pan is. Crazy times.

Glad you are happy with Acunote. You probably won't have a reason to switch away from it, not in Mantis/Jira direction anyway :-) That's functionality-wise, the open-source angle is always valid of course.

I don't see how Google can draw away Yahoo's online ad revenue. Only in the sense that Google competes with Yahoo for search impressions. On the media side of things Google is not a serious competitor. That Yahoo can't monetize the search

While stupid, it's highly relevant. It's worthwhile to read contradicting opinions, even if just to understand why they are wrong. Same reason I have KFPA (a communist radio station in Berkeley) programmed into my car radio.

By far the biggest reason that car diesels are not popular in US, while they are popular in Europe, is that diesel fuel is taxed similarly to gas here. In Europe it enjoys significant tax advantage. A small contribution is bad experience

Cash compensation, yes. Total compensation -- I am arguing otherwise. SV engineers are asked to take more risk, and perhaps to sacrifice quality of life more. Thus higher expected compensation. That $175k in NY is probably $200k after b

$115M is still a small exit. A successful VC exit is an IPO or similar size acquisition, meaning $300M+, in many cases quite a bit more. At that level the numbers work out. Sure, the last 6 years have been tough, but there's been plenty o
