These licences, if they have a point, fail big time on making them. There is a copyright law out there, and source code, being copyrighted product, needs to be licenced appropriately if you want to share it. If you want the copyright law

I was referring to the delivery more than the content. Frankly I don't know much about his side of computing, so I cannot agree or disagree anyways. My message in this thread is to the random guy getting into FOSS: don't make an

I don't really think this is about pleasing people or not. More about self respect. I for one would have to be way too drunk to pun on a shitshow like this in public, also when there's no apparent reason. But well that problem b

I feel it has been better that the more openly "bad" one of the two has acquired Github, because Google has this "don't be evil" face which is the fake one of its two faces, though many still just fall in for it, fo

Need not be. The important thing with mutt is that it's standards compliant, it helps follow the conventions of these communities, and as a plus it's easily configurable and scriptable. If there are GUI tools that bear the same

On both points, every problem has its own set of best solutions. If your problem is running a big community around a big project where running listserv+debbugs (or the like) is just minutiae, that's the best way to go. If you're

You can always use an ftp client or rsync to fetch mailing lists as a bunch of mboxes, and use a program like notmuch or mairix to search them very fast (not sure if notmuch supports mbox though, but I've used mairix in the past and it

I do want to use this on all my devices, not that I'm criticising the DoH concept per se. Only that it seems to me that the browser is not the correct place for the DNS resolver; thus I wonder why it's not the OS but the browser

I'm kind of happy with this happening as it seems to me that this can cause the VCS hosting arena to diversify a little bit. The "monopoly" of github always worried me as a huge freaky single point of failure.

I don't understand why a solo dev needs to host his private repos somewhere. You can just keep it on your machine, and have it backed up with the rest of your data. And given git is distributed, you should be able to work with teams

Off topic and rather personal question: I prefer Mercurial for my own VCS needs because (1) it's written in Python so I can hack on it or write extensions using a proper Python library if needed and (2) I find the UI better. But seein
