Perl 5 is a great language and does not deserve any of the hate it gets. Unfortunately the dev community is always on the look for bandwagons to jump into. It's a well thought out language with a comprehensive list of features nicely

Thanks a lot! I use Emacs and have some scraping projects (mainly converting some websites' announcements into RSS feeds), but have never thought of this either.

Wut? We write bugs all day every day, we should just quit coding entirely if we follow that sort of logic. Mistakes happen, they get fixed, those in good faith among us help them get fixed.

I would become an EU citizen if I could the day GDPR went official. It is the second best thing to happen after the invention of WWW itself in this industry. Hopefully more is to come and more countries adopt similar measures, and browser

Taking an argument to its extreme is bound to make it seem ridiculous. Certain websites require certain levels of security. Not every govt building has troops with war grade guns waiting them.

I'm going to exploit this comment which is at the top of the thread and stands above another comment that argues against government regulation in software industry to tell you guys this: hopefully this industry will be regulated from t

They will remove the data in a future release. I.e. if you don't read the entire release notes for all the software you use, there's a chance that your data will be removed inadvertently, if you happen to use the feature. Firefox

Well I actually agree you, I've exaggerated. Compliments are less useful than criticism here, but indeed not totally useless. I guess I overreacted to the comment that starts with a false blanket statement and overgeneralises.

That's really bad. Deleting user data is one of the most loud ways to declare that "we're bad at software development!" I guess I should consider trying Ungoogled Chromium or maybe Pale Moon. I worry the former will b

Complaining, criticising, two different things. The latter is what's being done, and that is quite useful. Loding and complimenting is nice, but useless. I have a love/hate relationship w/ Firefox, but it's the best t

What we have is basically worse than flash. At least nothing serious except video was strictly dependent on Flash.

What are the disadvantages of uploading to multiple hosts? Thus you can say benefit from YouTube's funding and discovery and use say Patreon for stable funding, and PeerTube (or Vimeo, &c) for alternative storage. Add to that a w

We should be able to ponder on the same ideas in different ways. That's how literature and culture flourished. We think that copyright and patents helped that because we confound the actual natural progress of technology and society

I don't use swiper, but Emacs + Elfeed is indeed a great experience; especially so if you tag all your RSS feeds when adding them. Also, if you have EMMS, you can play podcasts right away pressing P in the * elfeed-show * buffer.

TIL that Slackware is about five months older than me. I was a distro geek in my teens, and Slackware, together with Gentoo, is on of the two distros that I never got working. Is there any concrete advantages to using it today?
