Sure, but open source doesn't mean it's free from bugs, unintended or intended, and if any intelligence is behind it (again, I don't know enough about this, so I'm not saying it is), then you can bet that there are some

And it is built into the podman binary, as opposed to being a separate project.

Podman does have a socket that can be started. I use it on Linux so I'm not sure how that works on MacOS but it's API is Docker compatible, thus works with the docker cli and docker-compose as well.

If you're paying Google for their product, and you have support, the solution is to speak to their support team, and mention this. Failing that, you should contact your TAM. Even if Google's engineers looked at the bug, for all th

podman-compose is sadly not as good docker-compose. It simply converts compose yaml files into podman commands. As an alternative, as of podman v3 (rootfull) and v3.2 (rootless) podman has an optional podman socket you can enable. The API i

Podman has built in support for K8s' Pod definitions. I've never used it so not sure how good (or bad) it is, but it is possible. It is also able to generate pod definitions from created containers, as well as generate systemd uni

No, the podman socket is only necessary if you want to expose the docker API. This can then be used with the docker cli (or docker-compose). The podman cli interface is close to the docker cli interface, which is why you can do `alias docke

As rubenbe said, they implemented the docker API, thus you'll need to start a systemd socket. For rootless the steps are as simple as systemctl enable --now --user podman.socket export DOCKER_HOST=unix://$XDG_RUNTIM

You do not need podman-compose, in fact it is quite inferior to docker-compose. Podman has added full docker-compose support, and in fact even the docker binary works with it. Rootfull works as of v3.0.0, rootless was added in 3.2.0. Rootle

My feeling has been that linux on M1 isn't going to be stable until the next generation so I was definitely going to wait. But that's future talk. If it becomes stable, I may just do it.
