Okay, but like operationally, what does that even mean ? How do we establish a legal definition of what "your data" even is? When we talk about "big data" and data collection, the vast majority of what we're talkin

The show is mostly _fun_, but I definitely wouldn't call it a _great_ or well-made show, apart from the visuals. Too much clunky dialogue and half-baked subplots. In particular, there's a certain traumatized daughter whose plot ne

CrowdFlower is, or at least was when I used it, powered by MTurk. It's just an extra abstraction layer on top for things like automated fraud detection & elimination.

I don't think generally people want to have JSON accepted to use in their production workloads. More for development, testing, that kind of thing. Being able to just curl your service makes a huge difference.

On GCP, Cloud Endpoints proxies will transparently translate back and forth between protobufs and the canonical JSON, allowing either representation to be used. So if you're on GCP and don't care about vendor lock-in, that's

Disagree... Your second link cites 11.2 GW of new NG capacity for 2017, which is less than the 11.8 GW of retired fossil-fuel capacity over the same time (per the original article). Besides which, saying that the vast majority of net capaci

The last time I saw something about these highly porous pavement alternatives, it was pointed out they tend to be very vulnerable to freeze-thaw damage and that this damage also lowers the porosity dramatically. Basically making these kinds

Those aren't new rules for the cards that they're just contriving out of thin air. When it says that's what it "actually says", it means that's what the net effect of the card's actual text is in the en

That's like saying a file on your computer is just a "contrived meaning" of the way magnetic domains are arranged on some glass platters in your hard drive.

I feel like it's a law on HN that the first comments criticizing the article are always actually in complete agreement with the article, and either didn't read it or completely misread it. Every time, that happens.

This is the part I don't get when people preach the gospel of ultra-isolated test suites where nothing talks to an external system. The most nontrivial parts of your code, the most likely to break, are those that talk to external syste
