Make is very nice, but I wouldn't call it language-agnostic. In particular, it has quite a few shortcuts for languages like C and Fortran. https://www.gnu.org/software/make/manual/html_node/Catalogue

Yes, it's a very nice overview of Postgres data types. My only question is: if the "money" type is bad, what should we use instead? The author proposed a new "currency" type, but that doesn't exist yet. OT: I i

I'm pretty sure that use of the word "antiproduct" is unrelated to this use. Here, the "geometric antiproduct" is defined as the dual of the "geometric product". I haven't been paying much attention,

The advice I've received is to just set the isolation level to serializable and stick with that until you get performance problems, which you likely won't. If you stick to that advice, I doubt you're going to get "lots o

What should I do in Go or C if I want a red-black tree? As far as I know, my options are: - Download one that uses interface{} / void pointers - okay, but not very efficient or type-safe. - Download one that's intrusive - okay, bu

People have probably reinvented generics thousands of times in C, mostly using function pointers or macro hacks. Edit: And the intrusive data structures commonly used in C are way more complicated than the equivalent generic code (in my opi

Literally everyone else uses prefix await, so this will be a problem. But, - this is a lot easier to chain, which is very useful, and - the "future expansion" might bring a prefix await anyway (although introducing two syntaxes fo

Thanks, so lifetimes can definitely be inferred for safe code (although just like type inference, they can lead to leaky abstractions). But aren't lifetime annotations necessary for unsafe code? How could you cast a pointer into a stru

But how would you distinguish between struct A<'a, 'b>(&'a u8, &'b u8); and struct B<'a>(&'a u8, &'a u8); without lifetime annotations?

Do random rows get pushed from the bottom on purpose? It looks like a bug. It's still fun though. :) Edit: It's definitely on purpose.

The introduction mentions "view propagation", which does borrow checking without annotations. Is this documented anywhere? Also, I wish more languages had homepages like the Go one[0]. It takes a lot of reading to get to the point

That's incredible. Flutter seems to have a modern API, a great, customizable look, and a growing ecosystem. My only concern is, what are the executable sizes and performance like?

The simplest place to start, in my opinion, is [0]. If you understand that, then the fact that types are propositions and proofs are values of those types seems pretty obvious. [0]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brouwer

Why is that a bad idea? I mean, if you're downloading 1GB, your file is split into 1MB chunks, and each hash is 256 bits, that's only 32KB. I doubt anyone would complain about that.

Still, by your logic, every app must be translated into every language. It's okay to exclude people, especially when you're small and don't have the resources to cater for the needs of every single person.

Yes, they're effectively the same, but one is slightly more ergonomic, and the other saves you 30KB (which isn't much, in my opinion) and the pain of managing yet another dependency.
