It depends on the laptop. I tried with several older machines (2015 era), with several distros and never got it to work right (though my scenario is a bit weird, I have the laptop closed with an external monitor and keyboard/mouse hook

I use an LXC to run Docker and a bunch of containers on my Proxmox VE machine :). LXC is interesting, but you can't beat the ecosystem of Docker images available (and maintained, updated, etc.) Have a few apps running in plain LXC cont

Can't read legalese much, and -judging by how these things tend to go- I bet it's butchered beyond recognition before it gets to a vote (if at all). Instead, we should consider a constitutional amendment that enshrines digital pri

Yup, almost everyone at MS is using Teams internally. When they collaborate externally they use whatever the partner prefers. For example, there is a Discord server for ReactNative contributors and collaborators with a bunch of MS folks on

I've been programming professionally in C++ for 15 years and can say I wholeheartedly disagree. I'm looking forward to whenever our engineering team adopts a newer compiler version in our legacy codebase (sadly we're stuck at

I don't get it. The code sample is way uglier and more difficult to read than modern C++. Just move your code base to modern C++, it's a pleasure to work in (not joking, I'm loving it).

Everyone talks about consent for data collection which of course is a must, but that's just the first step. There's a second layer to this; when a platform becomes so big that not using it is a hardship that platform must offer

It's surprising how poorly labeled these images are; who is curating this collection? Can't they crowd-source a proper labeling project - I wonder how much better things like Stable Diffusion would be if its training would include

That's just confusing, they shouldn't include Windows at all. WSL is a virtual machine running a Linux kernel. It's akin to saying Microsoft Office runs on Linux; you just need to set up a VM running a Windows kernel first :)

It's interesting to see Windows in the list of platforms to be supported. LibJS itself was very interesting, but unfortunately it depends on a bunch of other Serenity libraries (AK, LibCore, etc.) which in turn heavily depend on POSIX.

The next big thing for Apple (which they've actually been working on for a while) is ads. They plan on taking down Google and Facebook in one fell swoop. They are the most heinous, disingenuous, evil empire ever. I always get downvoted

That is a half-truth at best. Maybe the applications (viewers) are open source, but not the server (the thing that actually stores your notes). So you cannot self host it, which is what OP was talking about.

Notesnook is not open source (you cannot self-host it, you must pay them). FWIW, Standard Notes is also very difficult to self host, though if you dig deep enough you can actually find the server and some outdated documentation. FWIW, I set

Yup, smaller carriers in Europe don't offer eSIM for their prepay options, which are super useful (a couple of bucks to get a ton of data with EU roaming as well).

I use the Docker one, fully insulates it from my actual machine; it's OSS, but there's a lot of code and downloading a bunch of models, packages and tools at build / run time so better safe than sorry.

I'm using the Docker one, so much easier and no worries of polluting my real environment (all the installation scripts tend to download a variety of things from a variety of places).

If you really care about privacy, don't get either. Apple is just as bad (or worse), they just have a really great PR team plugging away while they're building their ad mega-empire in the back.

Sorry, just realized most folks associate React Native with mobile. We target that too, but we're mostly targeting desktop platforms (via React Native Windows and React Native macOS) - and in our case antiquated really means antiquated
