Seems like a lot of work. Snow is heavy. Shoveling seems a bit easier than moving an unmovable tarp full of snow, while slipping and sliding.

I don't know why that man is not in prison. But it's been obvious for years that, in spite of repeated claims (that sent his stock into the stratosphere), that self-driving cars do not work, and will not work for a pretty long ti

What is this thing you call 'banking' and 'finance'? I suppose some pretend money is better than other pretend money, especially if you are close to the money fountain and have a big sack to stuff it into. The entire po

From 'Let Over Lambda': These solutions try to limit or eliminate the impact of unwanted variable capture but unfortunately do so at the expense of wanted, desirable variable capture. Almost all approaches taken to reducing the im

Bloomberg terminal is the ultimate device for making information not available to people, so traders can front-run customers, collude, do backroom deals, and other nefarious stuff. I am surprised sheeple don't consider that a crime. I

Thanks, that is what I thought, but didn't trust my memory. Yes, I did mean optimization - without it you can blow through your stack quickly (and the traceback will be long and redundant :)

That! Clojure is an elegant experiment with immutability. The implementation details of Clojure's datastructures are a pure joy to look at. JVM is an unfortunate choice as I see it, but it's a pretty solid system which is benef

It certainly is superior. Now get rid of the inferior part (python) and use SBCL. No more pretending to be a Lisper!

I don't get it. I am a Smug Lisp Weenie. Lisp is not a syntactic sugar - the only reason it looks like it does is for metaprogramming. Those parens are not syntax - they indicate the underlying structure of the code, a tree which ma

In practice it is not a footgun at all! If you use Lisp, you can tell what's a function and what's a variable by position - functions are always first in a list, variables - never, (except in bindings)... etc.

Although Common Lisp is called Lisp-2, there are actually many more namespaces... I think I counted 5 or 6 the last time I tried. But it is pretty sensible to keep functions in a different namespace. For instance, it allows you to: (let (

Apple may have started this. Back in the day Ipods would ingest mp3 files and hide them with hashed names in weird folders to make sure you can't give a copy to a neighbor. Android is even worse: they create absurd views of the file s

I am pretty sure the last Roomba I looked at had an upward-facing camera. Amazon can therefore ask the drone, I mean Roomba, to take a closer look at something. This could be tied in with AI: move to the window and detect curtains or window
