I don't know why that man is not in prison. But it's been obvious for years that, in spite of repeated claims (that sent his stock into the stratosphere), that self-driving cars do not work, and will not work for a pretty long time - probably not in my lifetime. Possibly, never. And if they could, there is the obvious question 'why?', when public transit clearly should be the focus.
Sure, we all want sci-fi future, but smoking too much funny grass does not make fantasy real.
Today, AI is good at mangling together pretty three-legged astronauts, not getting you out of unpredictable tight spots. Taking billions from investors shows great skill at doing just that, not engineering something that is basically not doable.
