Probably so. And that would be likely my approach at such scale. Still, my most benevolent interpretation of current reality is, rather than saying "that cloud native stuff is crap", accepting that there are cases where it may mak

Fake dichotomy. It is not old vs new, it is simple vs complex. The fact the older technology is simpler is just a coincidence.

...and the funny thing is that it is still cheaper than cloud native even being up all the time and provides a predictable cost per month, unlike serverless where you can have big surprises. Check: https://logical.li/blog&#

And if one of those services is down, your entire application is down. You basically build a server made of abstract components ECR, S3, ALB, CF , all of which are able to fail.

I am not against the cloud. VMs are also cloud, unless you run them on your own servers. For instance, the Hetzner Cloud (mostly VMs, plus load balancers and disks) is so cheap and has such a nice CLI API that it competes aggressively with

I went through sweat and tears with this on different projects. People wanting to be cool because they use hype-train-tech ending up doing things of unbelievably bad quality because "hey, we are not that many in the team" but &quo

No, actually the only I used was meconet.de which closed for most of the business. That is why I am looking for options. Thanks for the suggestion!

Typo on https://doesitscale.dev/auth -> "Authenicatication Services" Would be interesting (and tough) to compare VMs and containers across providers.

Judging by the results it seems mature and professional enough to me, including the meme based marketing. And the mission is right too.

I think this was the original paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7745181/ Sample size was 43k people split in treatment and control group. Adding it here for context.

This topic concerns me a lot, since the Ivermectine phenomenum plus the Covid Vaccines. People mentioned sample sizes in several comments. What concerns me is that sample size requirements versus incidence of a problem (ex: covid deaths) is

This is pure gold. The Amiga was such ahead in the game... then we had 10 years of PC dark ages.

"configuring a Linux base image for a specific server role" doesn't have a single desired outcome. There are a million ways to accomplish it. No two sysadmins would produce the same result. This is not right. There are a mill

Reducing the probability of every undesired outcome is maybe too optimistic for the first day :-) You can reduce the probability of every outcome you can initially think of, plus the ones you find out along the way. As time passes you will

The coin flipping example ideally would have S = ln(2), with the two outcomes being: * heads, no issues * tails, no issues The articles says this: "The way to lower that maximum is to bring N to a number as close as possible to one. In

Good to know that there are books addressing this as well. I have the impression that the topic of complexity is not discussed enough, neither in the academia nor in the private sector.

"Facebook does this" This is an important point. Don't try to do what Facebook/Google/etc do because you are not Facebook or Google and you don't have a team to support the same complexity levels nor the budget
