I don’t love that tweet because it’s not the suffering, but the fact the diamonds were naturally grown in the Earth. Put another way: why would anyone buy sea salt when can we produce pure NaCl? (This is not to say you can or should ignore

There are significantly better options here, e.g. by moving assets into a blind trust while in office.

We recently switched from Rust to Elixir on a new service in no small part to this. The idea of sharing objects through Tokio async processes felt difficult compared to this being a first class feature of Elixir. It’s not that it’s hard, pe

My biggest concern is that my siblings and parents have all signed up. So (more or less) my DNA is in this database, even though I have never interacted with the organization.

I also love thinking through how to store data, e.g. in Redis, and aligning it with your access patterns. The biggest challenge I’ve faced is that access patterns tend to change over time and Redis isn’t flexible (e.g. you use an HSET to pu

This would be more akin to being logged in to a specific site with a JWT than to tracking writ large. Basically, if your site has access to this secure key, then it already knows who you are (i.e. because you are logged in). This key would

I’m not sure I agree with the premise. Given the examples in the article, seat space is not limited just to upsell customers. Smaller seats means more fares. Similarly, priority boarding became a thing when airlines started charging $40 f

Isn’t there also a concern on battery quality? If batteries are expensive, then you don’t want to swap a good one for an older or reduced capacity battery, but you would have no way of knowing a priori how good the replacement might be.

In the above referenced example, it would say “or” if it means what Kagan implies. Cut it down to two items: “Do not: drink and drive” clearly allows the exclusive use of either.

Maybe a good place to ask this question: I recently wanted to share lib code between three separate codebases (JavaScript, Swift and Kotlin). I considered writing it in a wasm-compatible language and sharing it as a wasn module. Curious if

I feel the easiest path around this is to use wireless charging instead of plugging into a multi-use port. As we have seen operationalized USB attacks, I don’t quite buy the premise of the article.

I guess my question is: as you invent new phrases to describe more complex words, aren’t you effectively expanding the size of the language, even if this is “implicit”? Snowman in English is counted as a word, for instance. The advantage he

My spitball solution is to add an excise tax on revenue based on market concentration, potentially paid back to consumers or new market entrants. So if you own 50% of a market, maybe you pay a 25% excise tax, and thus the market finds an eq
