I think the idea is that you know what they do from having learned and interacted with the icons. If you're a fresh user, it could be a pretty unintuitive learning curve.

This might be a good time to check out algebraic data types, esp. with a single constructor. For example, in Elm you might declare: type Length = Inches Int Then any function that accepts a Length, you can only pass in a length. Th

For what it's worth, the author of the article misses one crucial aspect of the system: it allows customers to reserve online and via third-party applications. Checking in users (clearly) had a bad experience, but the fact that all upc

I really enjoyed the machine's "uhs" and "uhms" in the demo speech. However, I felt the "uh-huh"s sounded forced. It's funny how these subtleties are very important in human conversation.

I think this explanation makes the most sense, since it explains the non-independence of the player's actions. Another way I thought of it was this: imagine (despite the prisoners' knowledge) each prisoner actually had the same nu

I'd love to hear more. Maybe I'm a bit confused: the documentation says that functions are pure, and then the example functions look like they are full of side-effects. Does anyone have a good explanation of how purity and effects

As an avid Elm user, I am happy to see continued usage of Redux. Redux does a great job of bringing functional reactive programming to React.

I would also argue the author (in the article) spends more time musing in his own ad hominems rather than addressing his own arguments on their merits.

I believe this has always been Elon Musk's strategy. Double down on his own projects. He's been pretty successful at it, as yet.

Yeah, we've had a great time writing Elm for a fairly complex single-page Ethereum dApp. It's conceptually a lot simpler than Haskell, which made it easy for the team to pick up. I only wish it had a better system (Tasks) for Java

Please be less ad hominem and speak to the merits of the conversation. Does it matter if the OP has skin in the game if the merits of the argument have real value?

Really? I’ve never seen pinyin written except as a learning aid (and as part of the modern keyboard input process). Chinese speakers will even air-draw characters if the context doesn’t make it clear in spoken language.

I believe VB's statement was: are we building a successful platform or allowing speculation to drive the value. In my opinion, VB believes in Ethereum / crypto, but he wants more developers to improve the platform and build on it.

Couldn't this be explained by a substitution effect? The numbers from the CDC article discuss only the changes from the period starting in 2011 until 2016; where do you justify "a 5x reversal in less than a year?"

It would be great if you could add top posts from each of these domains. I am really interested to see the top content I may have missed from a few of these domains.

I thought one of the main issues was that there was only one natural implementation of many API functions. Like when you assign students a coding question, you will see many answers come back identical even though no one cheated.

I've found out-of-the-box distributed erlang difficult to run in environments with a lot of instance churn (e.g. containerized deployments on Kubernetes), so much so that I generally opt to not connect my nodes for erlang message passi

For me, it was difficult that I couldn't have reproducible builds. I would kick off a deploy and it would one day break due to some dependency (incorrectly) making a breaking change. It's important to keep packages up to date, but

How do you determine value? Ethereum has smart contracts and a large volume of real-life transactions. How do you justify “no intrinsic value”?

Elixir has macros which work by accepting AST as data and returning transformed AST structures. It's difficult to work with them, but there are plenty of languages that have first-class macros with more complex syntax. From [0]: de
