Indeed you are right. XCode absolute induces some stockholm syndrome as an iOS dev. Maybe anecdotal, but I do find swiftPM based projects to have far fewer issues than cocoapod + Cocoa based apps. I'd love to see sourcekit-lsp (the swi

I am! I'm building a complete backend in Swift for an app i'm working on. It's actually been really great so far. I develop on my mac in xcode and deploy on linux via docker. See: https://vapor.codes/ I'

This seems cool. I am currently shopping around for a cheap managed database for an app I am launching soon (and bootstrapping - so cost is a concern right now). We are starting small but want room to grow. The free tier looks really promis

It's pretty insane how locked down their software is. I was looking into building a battery status app for the Garmin Fenix watches that connected directly to the board over bluetooth, but you need to fetch a key from their api with a

This is insanely impressive. Having tried set up GPU passthrough in proxmox a few years ago, it was an absolute disaster. I would love to see this kind of approach more widely supported by other hypervisors! It's a real shame consumer

Ive been using mailgun since before they restricted the free tier to forward emails from my personal domain to my gmail (and respond to them with SMTP creds via gmail). Thankfully my wildcard routes have been grandfathered when the change h

Not directly related but when I was releasing an iOS app recently - App Annie made me realize how "pay to win" building apps is these days. You know a service is expensive when there is only a "contact sales" button on t

Possibly related - this is the same person who is working on a very impressive voxel game/engine. I didn't see an explicit mention of it in the blog, but the Youtube videos speak for themselves: https://www.youtube.com&

Yep - worked there for a few years on an iOS/Mac team. Was pretty fun to watch the progression over the years. When I joined they gave me a mac and a PC desktop because so many internal tools only worked on windows or IE. But that chan

As do I. This is a difficult problem to solve especially as the signal to noise becomes worse as abuse becomes more common. Ive had to wildcard block my area code (since I don't live there anymore) which captures 95% of my daily spam c

I'm in the same boat. I bought my Edge Router Lite probably 8 years ago and it's easily been the best $99 I ever spent on networking gear and it's still working amazingly well. Before the Edge Router I couldn't imagine

I actually designed and built a (modern?) game like this! If you have an iPhone you can check it out. It's sort of "Portal meets Doom" https://blog.sb1.io/gateescape/ I used some screenspace shaders for

If you find this sort of thing interesting, I implemented a "Portal" raycasting engine akin to Valves portal game. You can read more about how it works here: https://github.com/gh123man/Portal-Raycaster

This reminds me of Swift's string formatting syntax: let name = "Bob" print("Hi my name is \(name)") Which I always quite liked. I found myself missing this when I moved on to Rust and Go.

Agreed. I worked for (very large company) distributing a mac app outside the app store. Other than the distribution + update benefits (and a couple entitlements) you get from the app store, the freedom you get by living outside the sandbox

I wonder how it would look if the noise was randomized each frame and the points from the previous frame were considered in future frames to cheaply fill in missing data. I believe a similar technique is used to optimize real time ray traci
