Other people want to modify my project, usually in ways that break it, and somehow I am obligated to provide my time and skills to them for free? I don't understand where you're coming from at all.

Years ago I disabled github notifications and ignored pull requests because honestly, 95% of them are crap. So many of them degrade performance, break unrelated features, or are incompatible with certain platforms. I don't have the tim

I would recommend against antivirus. If you force developers to use an annoying configuration of a specific OS, you make it much harder to hire top talent. Why would someone work at your company when they could go to Google and use their fa

Apple has 3D touch, where if you press firmly on the screen, the phone makes a tactile "click" and triggers a different action than normal tap. Annoyingly, Apple mapped 3D touch to a totally new set of actions instead of replacing

Apparently there's not enough interest among those who write C. Back in 2012, Brandon Philips (CoreOS CTO & kernel contributor) tried valiantly to organize a C conference, but there weren't enough speakers and presentations.[1

That was exactly the problem. The web font (a variant of Open Sans) had bad TrueType hinting, which macOS ignored. I viewed the site using Edge and it almost looked as if all antialiasing and subpixel rending was disabled.

I thought we were talking about my personal site. Floobits looks the way it does because of a designer. It doesn't reflect my personal tastes very well. That said, I'll probably fix those fonts soon. Thanks for pointing that out.

What part of my own advice don't I follow? I don't use web fonts. I use a popular serif font (Baskerville[1], falling back to other serif fonts if the user lacks that). I use the default font weight so text isn't too thin. I

Similar to icon images, you'd use aria-label, aria-hidden, and title attributes.

I agree that icon fonts are a hack, but the web is made of countless hacks. This specific one seems benign. Users won't notice or care whether you use icon fonts or images. Icon fonts are approximately the size of the equivalent images

It took me a while to figure out that links in the text were ALL CAPS instead of underlined and/or blue. The hover effect was so subtle that I didn't notice it at first. I ended up hovering over acronyms pretty often, as I was nev

I don't mind the worn look, though I often clean the fingerprint oils off the keyboard. A blog post titled Aged to Perfection describes my view[1]: > The truth is that consumer products are ‘new’ for a very brief moment when they

A crazy naked person is definitely worth calling the cops over. I actually did this a couple years ago. I was in West Oakland and my next door neighbor was outside one morning, babbling (and occasionally yelling) about Jesus. I went out a

I totally agree with this. I actually quit my job at Red Hat because of the culture of non-criticism. I kept getting in trouble for pushing back against stupid decisions, even though I never insulted a single person. For example: When the d

I work at Red Hat (part of the CoreOS acquisition) and I have to say that PatternFly has not been useful to the project I work on.[1] First, PatternFly is big. We were mandated to adopt it, and it tripled our CSS (from 45kB to 145kB). Patte
