I would argue that only some fraction x of the work should be wasteful. If the work would cost c on the market, it cost (1 + x)c on the network. Then if 51% attack total cost = (1 + x)c then only (x c) is wasted while c is recovered from th

As I understand the whole point is to create decentralized marketplace without wasting energy on useless tasks (aside for proving energy use)

Meta theories should be evaluated by their fruits, theories they help cognitive system to discover. By how good the theories are and how easy it is to discover them. For example: instead of teaching a child a great bunch of theories one can

Thanks, I forgot to remove M=Nest that was beneficial in my previous attempts where I used 3 Nests. But remember: Never forget that it is a waste of energy to do the same thing twice, and that if you know precisely what is to be done,

Very nice. Mathematica can clearly do the job. But I feel like there is still a lot of room for improvement. Clearly though, the proof would be more and more difficult. Here is my modification: M=Nest; u[f_][n_][a_]:=If[n<1,f@a,M[

Now the contest for programmers: Write the biggest number in one line of code (80 characters, keywords count as 1 character, whitespace - 0) using computer language of choice(standard library with infinite integer type) that any reasonable

I don't remember how many pings they received in the movie. I've understood that they had received just one ping from that planet.

But they could. That is exactly why they did know about nice atmosphere and water on the planet, but didn't know about the waves since the first wave that killed first astronaut happened during the landing. They also left one of the te

The movie shows other cases where it doesn't follow its own rules: they have spaceplanes that can get to orbit from a planet with 1.8 times earth gravity, but not from earth without huge boosters? Normal fuel is just less expensive.

As noted building high tower is not feasible in practice. Pyramid though would be much more feasible. It is only 1/3 weight of equivalent tower (polyhedron that is cube) so can be theoretically 3 times higher while simultaneously way m

As of today that is true. But once we hit 10nm node the progress in terms of cost per transistor will probably cease dramatically. And it already slowed considerably. Compare for example nvidia 460 gtx (2010) and 2014 760 gtx (2014). For sa

I mean it is free for farm owners, since as of today they have nothing better to do with extra energy that is produced in good conditions. So it is basically wasted.

One missing factor in the article is the source of energy. Free energy can be easily obtained from renewable sources like wind farms since as a result of wind variance only some fraction of generated power can be practically utilized. Vari
