You can’t compare buying $1000 cars and spending your own time repairing them to getting picked up in an Uber which is a much more modern, comfortable, and safe car, and not having to care if it breaks down (as long as it’s not during a tri

Why is 1 in 1000 too high? I used to recommend that new San Francisco residents keep a car if they could afford to. I no longer make that recommendation. Even my suburban parents decided against a second car because of Uber.

> It's eminently reasonable and fair that a job anyone can do will pay less than a job fewer people can do. That’s strongly a matter of opinion. Almost anyone is physically capable of being a home health care aide for a dying child,

Would a clinical trial tell why? Or only who it works for and who it doesn't?

Sure it will, if it is a well diversified economy.

Guaranteed vaporware. If these guys had even a fraction of a clue they would have gone with a 6 rotor design.

That’s just from the production in 2016. It will make more in 2017 and for a decade, plus the album (#12 on Billboard) plus the book (top seller on Amazon) plus the merchandise and eventual stage film.

Holy Infant Jesus I have never wanted to set up automatic failover and restore from backup for an office chat server :)

The failure rate and time to resolution for a box in your office is much worse than for Slack’s Service.

It’s “just a tool,” but without the built in restrictions you can be sure there would be even greater numbers of morons doing stupid stuff with drones. DJI is doing what many companies from Facebook to Smith & Wesson have been critiqued

This is what happens when American companies offshored all of their production to China. Eventually the Chinese companies figure out that they can do the whole thing themselves, and do it better.

You are asking a hobbyist drone to fulfill professional functions. If you need a drone for government accountability you need to own your own stack.

Rent control is just one of the ways that people who are in a place benefit themselves at the expense of the people who are not yet there (and thus don’t get to vote).

Not everyone cares about encryption first. Personally, I’d rather have my entire HDD published on nytimes.com than lose the data on it.

The bikes appear to be strewn about the city to begin with, even when they are on Google property. If you see a bunch of people riding these bikes between buildings and just leaving them there why wouldn’t you do the same?

That’s because your idea of a “computer” has a command line, Python interpreter, filesystem, etc. Kids these days don’t get exposed to that so they don’t really desire it. Their idea of computing comes from apps that are take-it-or-leave-it

If you leave a bunch of unlocked bikes around, expect people to take them. It’s like leaving a plate of cookies out and then getting mad when people eat them.

Great example. If they hadn’t had a cycle shop that generated enough income to develop a plane, while simultaneously not requiring too much of their time, they wouldn’t have been able to do it.

To rephrase... I don't think that the comparison between capital punishment and murder is worth the calories it takes to type, just like a comparison between a speeding ticket and armed robbery.

It should be less than 1:1. The police officer should be asked to take on more risk than the general public if they are to claim that they are "brave."

I don't. I think that execution should be the default punishment for murder and other forms of intentional homicide, barring exceptional circumstances which I don't see here.
