Just call any Michelin 3 star restaurant in an expensive city and ask for a reservation for one at a table, not the bar. It’s not at all illegal to deny this. Number of people in your dinner party is not a protected class.

Sorry, I don’t ever make off-forum contacts from forums unless with an account I’ve specifically created for that purpose.

I stopped spending time culling a couple of years ago on the bet that in a few years machine learning will be pretty good at it. I’d rather cull when I’m generating training data.

The big players can’t compete because all of them are invested in making the experience on their own platform the best. Box is the only platform agnostic competitor.

I mean, that is actually true. A restaurant that spends a lot of money on fixed costs (large tables with lots of space between them in expensive cities) will not accept a reservation for 1.

If your product is useful enough people will install what they need to, like Photoshop and Excel.

I don’t think it’s resources as much as culture. Apple makes products for Apple users and their products for the benighted are dogshit (eg Itunes for windows). Dropbox on the other hand treats every platform as first class.

You’re right, it’s not a web app. It is a stand-alone application built on top of Chrome the way that other apps are built on Qt or WPF.

A highly specialized Web app doesn’t need to support more than one browser. If you’re a Firefox user, consider it as though it said “please download the Spotify app to use our service on your machine.”

I tried Google’s file sync app a long time ago and it was dogshit compared to Dropbox. Unless Dropbox raised prices above $50/month I am not going to have a reason to ever try it again.

Wow, a great view into how two people can live probably yards from each other and live in what are functionally two distinct planets.

I had a lot of people asking me to buy my company’s software for 10% or 20% or 50% of what I was charging. I never responded to those cheapskates and rather, in limited number, looked at them as evidence that I wasn’t charging too little. I

The number one rule of spending money on digital ads is to spend a small amount on many different ads before spending lots of money on one. This is doubly true today when a guy will make you an awesome video ad for $25 on Fiverr.

This is usually true but sometimes not. For example products like Grey Goose vodka make billions of dollars despite being indistinguishable from other quality vodka even by self-professed experts.

Someone who has done it before at slightly smaller scale. To grow a business from $50m to $200m in five years hire someone who grew a division from $10m to $50m in five years, ideally at a company where not every division grew at that rate.

There are always enough people who don’t care. I don’t want an AI to destroy humans, but frankly if it is an inevitability I’d rather it was an AI I designed.
