One thing I feel is missing from the article is how brutal the conditions (for the kids and the rescue team) must have been. Extreme heat and humidity are no joke.

Talking about scams in job proposals. Lately I've been getting a lot of recruiters contacting me with sweet fake jobs opportunities, only to really try and sell me their recruitment services.

Good set of things to secure after making sure access of people leaving the company is properly removed and everyone is trained in phishing attacks.

Been living in Medellín for 3 years now. If you don't go out of your way looking for drugs/sex, you'll be fine. Most people getting in some form of trouble go above and beyond looking for both.

Here in Latin America, the hiring of local developers by companies in the United States has decreased. Since July of last year, it has been much easier to hire and retain local talent.

As other have mentioned depending on what is being deployed. Lambda/Cloud Functions code: testing 1m-5m, deployment <3m. We use NX for our monorepo so we usually only deploy a fraction of all of our serverless code. Containers: test

Our team choose flutter 3 years ago, we currently serve 2 million users. I attribute a big part of our success to Flutter and the flexibility it gave us as a growing startup.

It seems this applies to other countries as well. E.g Colombia is expected to increase it's GDP this year between 8.1% and 8.3%[1] [1] https://www.oecd.org/economy/colombia-economic-snapshot/

Around 15% of my apartment building here in Medellín, Colombia are retirees that moved from the US. Cost of living being 1/5 of of the US I would be doing the same.

Two ideas for you to consider: 1. If you can, get a dog, it will force you to socialize, plus they will keep you company when it's just the two of you. 2. If you can, do one year remote in a traditionally friendly society. E.g I have

I second this. I use rappi about 1-2 a day. They attracted a bunch of users using their delivery platform and now they have expanded into dug delivery, car insurance, plane tickets and a bunch more. They are currently trying to break into f

We have been using RDS -> DMS -> Kinesis -> BigQuery for 3 years now. Very little maintenance and has worked without issues. I doubt this service will be cost competitive over a setup like ours. Perhaps between Cloud SQL -> BigQ

Companies (even small startups) working in regulated spaces can benefit from using the public cloud for the compliance aspect. More than once I've had a regulator ask me for X or Y security certifications, very easy to point to the lis

My experience is aligned with this. I would add fast growing teams as well. It is difficult to grow 10->150 in a year without some form of methodology in place.

I think it would be better to spend it on broad social programs. Around 90% of Colombians have some form of Amerindian ancestry. Less than 5% are fully Amerindians.

Our experience has been similarly good. 750k monthly active users between iOS (29%), Android (60%) and web (11%). Supporting low spec Android devices has proven to be a much nicer experience for us using flutter.

Anecdotally, we currently have one mobile app (500k-ish users) and one web app (2500-ish users) both in Flutter. Even though there is still a lot that needs to improve in Flutter web, our frontend team promised the web app in 3 months and e

I’ve been working remotely for almost 5 years. One thing I would recommend remote teams is visiting teammates cities (if possible and if traveling is your thing). Is a nice way to see the world and for team bonding at the same time.

Congratulations to Rappi, it’s crazy dificult to raise money in Latin America. I’ve seen so many good teams/products/services fade away due to inability to raise capital.
