Here’s some numbers I looked up: Average co2 from a car per year: 4.6 metric tons ( https://www.epa.gov/greenvehicles/greenhouse-gas-emissions-t... ) co2 output from a Falcon 9 launch: 440,000kg or 440 metric tons ( http

You're being downvoted because the comment isn't really adding anything to the discussion because its so short. What Brian_K_White is referring to is SQRL by Steve Gibson from GRC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

Anathem, Neal Stephenson, for me. I’ve read it multiple times and while only a work of fiction has changed how I think about the world over the years.

The current state of neural networks is somewhat analogous to how cathedrals were built in the medieval era. Master architects had a good understanding of then-ancient geometry and applied that knowledge plus knowledge of arches from Roman

I'm curious about how often this happens across different species. Once we know that rate for mammals and/or specific species, for example, I wonder what effect(s) it would have on estimations of generations and evolution over tim

Just to be clear, the title is incorrect. The hole is in the Soyuz, not the ISS.

Magic internet radio bad. But seriously I’m waiting for someone more knowledgable to take this paper to task. There have been numerous WiFi and cell phone studies that have found no evidence of harm.

Doubtful your geocities page is around even now unless you backed it up or it got slurped by neocities.

Often it’s a combination of radiocarbon dating and historical records. Though probably not in this instance, there are sometimes records found in other places that say this or that person lived at the same time as another, so that can help

AMP is a fucking cancer on the web right now. When you visit what you expect to be a search result url, it should take you to the server/site that was indexed. When AMP for launched, it didn’t even provide a link to the original site.

I received a 2017 mb pro with touchbar a couple months ago at a new job. After two weeks of utter frustration with the touchbar, Fisher-price keyboard, and comically large touchpad I went to IT and switched it out for a 2015 mb pro. It’s th

At a high level, I think the top level advantages potentially are in power saving and flexibility when working on machine learning problems. The brain is very power efficient compared to modern computers. Incorporating more “organic” struct

Well I might be a good example. I’m highly technical and I never want to try configuring an email server again. Did that once and no thanks. I can do it, but since it’s not a particular technical subdomain I have much experience with and

Yes this. When I started listening to podcasts years ago, Reader was my primary tool. When Google announced the pending shutdown, I screenshot every part of the app so that I could rebuild it from scratch if needed one day.

Completely agree. Just started at a company about a month ago and was given a 2017 MacBook Pro. After 2 weeks of hating the entire experience (keyboard and touchbar) I asked for an older 2015 machine. Got it, much better now.

Dunno why people are still afraid of just posting their email addresses. I use gmail for my domain specific account and just rely on their spam catching tools. If you run your own server then there are lots of anti spam tools as well. Edit:

Right. Its nearly at the scale of being something I would finish in a 40 hour work week as an mvp internal tool. Way out of the normal scale of a demo app for an interview. I just ended the interview process today in part because of this.
