tl;dr SQM is needed in most bottleneck routers as endpoints cannot be relied upon to know or respect resource constraints. yes and no. "throttling up the stack" is crude but effective in a narrow set of circumstances (just takes a

ah, sure thing! you want some kind of managed buffer (aqm/sqm/qos) in your bottleneck router. openwrt or any linux can do it as the needed parts (fq_codel or cake qdisc) are in upstream for some years now and wrappers like firewal

the idea seems useful to reduce workload for coders and managers (less debugging, hacking, decision making...). google pushing web standards surely is a double edged sword and putting some limit on feature-fomo should probably not remain a

yea, 480p is ok for phones. 720p brings a noticeable improvement for watching on something 40"+ (tv). going further to 1080p is only a marginal improvement over 720p so i usually "keep it simple/small"

haha! can totally relate that 'save to temp-dir first and copy later' behavior is so frustrating because it's inconsistently applied and not easily avoided, yet somewhat incomprehensible to the average user.
