Yes, unless you have some sort of protection. Protection could be validating DNSSEC (most likely not) Or using DoH (DNS over HTTPS) or DoT (DNS over TLS)

Switching gears is expensive, and if every company switched to "the most profitable thing" it wouldn't be profitable. This automatically prevents them from mindlessly switching.

I don't know what it means in the context of this tool, but library searching is much more complicated than a single environment variable. There is the system search path, runpath, rpath, and LD_LIBRARY_PATH as just a few different dis

The article you linked seems to be in support that systemd is in fact simpler than sudo. Sudo, which only does privilege escalations, is only 1/3 the amount of code of the entirety of systemd. Systemd-run has been around for many years

My point is that there is no standard possible that would be easy enough to implement. IPv4 works good enough for now, but any standard trying to replace it or solve it's problems will have the same deployment issues at v6. Nothing is

And then what? Invent a new standard that also won't be adopted? Make it so in the future a public IP is like owning a home? IPv6 is the only viable path forward. There are no redos here. Saying IPv6 can't work is the equivalent o

I'm not saying political forces won't try legislating the problem away, but that won't even help here. A supply chain attack can happen in hardware or software. Hardware has firmware, which is software. What makes this XZ att

I'd prefer they stick to GPUs, but I think you're over simplifying. Dell proves that selling complete units is very profitable. Apple shows that owning the entire stack is immensely profitable. Nvidia already has significant hardw

> How that output comes to be is not the output itself, same as the nix side the article is talking about. I see the confusion now. The nix image builders OCI layer's contents are _only_ nix store paths which _do_ include the input.

It would seem you don't understand how either work. They are basically opposites in how they actually work. Docker layers are completely independent from each other. A docker layer is a sha256 sum of that layer. Separately there is an

And the snake eats it tail. With nix, re-usability is very high. It's a function that is very baked in at very low levels of it's design. This comes with up front complexity but getting to these reusable layers is basically forced

In the link I referenced, it shows you how to use maven plugins in nix. Nix has composable, reusable, and shareable functions. Nix is a full, be awkward, programming language. You'll find functions and flakes for nearly everything you

No, that dockerfile is not equivalent because the hello-world is not statically built in the nix version. However I'll give you that it could be smaller in more complex examples. For example glibcLocales is for all locales which is qui

You _can_ if you have _disipline_. That sounds like a foot gun the longer a project goes on and as more people touch the code. Just create a snapshot of the OS repo, so apt/dnf/opkg/ etc will all reproduce the same results.

I think something got lost along the way. Nix does not replace maven, you call maven from nix. https://ryantm.github.io/nixpkgs/languages-frameworks/maven/ nix is a build tool a similae way that docker is a b

What is automatic about docker? Do you mean other people have already put in the work? Or do you mean that it's more trivial to pip/npm/cargo install stuff?

I used to think this way as well, but then I started doing the actual math. My last power bill was ~$103 for exactly 256kw, or put another way about $0.40/kwh. For context this is in NYC. I'm sure other people have cheaper power e
