Apple has a hard requirement that you use the safari rendering engine for all browsers. So even Firefox on iOS is really just reskined safari. Android is much more open, you can download Firefox on Android and it will infact be Firefox. Wha

The poster of this "Show HN" seems to have zero involvement with the development of berty. I've been eagerly awaiting the release of berty for a few months now, but they have not made public the app yet. They have a closed be

I don't really understand... Does WhatsApp have a better UI? Why? To me signal is the best UI, and WhatsApp looks like a child designed it. Especially with the horrid default colors and backgrounds. But I don't really see a differ

Interesting, in the Android play store it says Sept 2018. But I opened it on a browser and I see Feb 2019. However all the negative comments about ads are from after November 2020. Clearly a smear campaign.

This is an interesting problem with true E2E solutions. The person sending you the image would need to send it with lower resolution. There is no way for the server to do it for you. The servers also don't store messages once they been

There is a lot of nuance to what happens and when. If you "ipfs add" a file, ie take a local file and add it to ipfs, the default is to also pin it. This is most likely what you want. If you just fetch or cat a file, it will still

The address of the file is the hash of the file. (Really the hash of the DAG of the file) So you could validate it if you wanted to. Because the URL _is_ the hash, if you did validate it you could be very sure that it is correct. If a webse

I don't know what you think is needed for nix/guix that has not existed the past 20 years. All the other technologies I mentioned require fairly recent kernels to work, namely for all the namespace shenanigans they employ. Nix can

My point was more than guix and nix could both write to the same store using a single daemon compatible with both in the future. Ensuring some cooperation between the two going forward. That currently isn't possible, but would be nice.

I firmly believe that Nix (and/or Guix) are the future. I am going to use Nix as the keyword below, but Guix and Nix are so very similar that everything is also true for Guix. Snap, Flatpak, Docker, AppImage, etc are all very complex s
