That's a lot of questions - What is the story in nix for packaging untagged branches of software If you want to do unreleased software, you would create overlays that added them. You're overlays most likely would not need to defin

Having used nix for two years now for both work and personal purposes, I agree. Though I have also come to think nix is doing things in much better ways than AppImage, Docker, Snap, Flatpack, and others. I won't focus on the good parts

There is only three hard parts of e2ee. 1. Making it actually secure. 2. How does a user logging in to multiple locations share the key. 3. Full text search. It would be hard for discord to do 1 and make everything e2ee. But the casual natu

I don't think your comment implies what you think it implies. The wasted energy there is taking about inefficiencies in electronics and motors in general. Mining BTC is not 100% efficient either. If it was, the mining hardware wouldn&#

Thanks for the link! In that case, it seems completely arbitrary to not make chroot work as a normal user then.

Interesting. Still, as namespaces gain more and more traction, the value of adding rootless chroot goes down.

Can't unshare essentially do the same thing? unshare --map-current-user --root=<new root> <program> And works completely unprivileged using namespaces.

Having your 2FA tokens on something where the keys available to the user changes it to something you know. An encrypted file with that an application decrypts is still available to the user. ie, they keys are loaded into memory. In most pho
