I don’t understand the comments saying that this obsoletes databases, or that this is a good substrate for relational databases. The interface is for random access. Quite a few database optimizations depend on sequential access, I.e. access

Amen to all of that. The only mice that make my arm hurt are from Apple. Also: Trading real Esc and Fn keys for the stupid touchbar; lack of upgradability; trading thinness for reliability; trading thinness for battery life

Too small, so it keeps falling between sofa cushions. Ambiguous orientation (in the dark). Too easy to press buttons unintentionally.

I have similar but slightly different issues with my 2018 3-series BMW. For most things, I think the BMW apps are actually better than what you get from CarPlay. For example, the BMW GPS makes better use of screen real estate. (On the other

I think they took one step in the right direction, where two more were needed. The UNIX idea of piping text output from one command to the next was fine at the time, but it means that the downstream command has to parse text. With nushell,

The usual argument on this topic is: whether suppression of free speech is even effective; you just push the ugliness underground and it festers; sunlight is the best disinfectant; etc. However, those arguments go back way before the intern

I loved the Psion 5 form factor, and its stellar keyboard. The Gemini PDA is the heir to hat design, and shares some design talent. I’m running Linux on it.

TFA says: ‘He gives an anecdote on how hard it would be to create just one new protein by chance — the odds are so astronomical that there are fewer atoms in the entire universe in comparison: “The odds bury you. It can’t be done.”‘ This is

I don't understand the point of emphasizing corporations over brands. There are many toothpastes available to me in any supermarket. They vary by brand, and about five attributes (whitening, enamel protection, etc.) How would things re

My friend had a Purism, which was a frustrating experience in many ways. And it was quite expensive. I am a very happy customer of System76. I got a Galago. Ten days later, the Darter was released. I returned the Galago, got the Darter, no

Unicomp Model M. It's great because it comes close to the original IBM Model M, which was my favorite keyboard ever. (OK, well, except for the IBM 029 keypunch.) Buckling spring keys, loud, great tactile feedback. Someone put it out in

To be at all interesting, this would have to have a good keyboard (as in the 2015 MBP), and an optional touchbar.

I was sure I was misunderstanding the paper, but my quick read matches yours. They seem to be analyzing just this one query. Another error is that just counting the number of times the curve passes in and out of the query is too simplistic.

A 4K display on a laptop is a gimmick. Or, at least, for the aging eyes of this developer. Just bought one and had to exchange it for a 1920x1080 display. Much more comfortable.

Very poorly argued. The premise ignores that many of those superpowers are available on your computer. So giving up the phone is not as big a sacrifice as is being claimed.

Sort of related: popOS is the most beautiful Linux desktop I’ve used. And the Gnome extensions make for very easy customization.
