In case this article is at risk of convincing someone to use an ORM: Just don't, please. Do not use an ORM. Write your own SQL. I was once a huge advocate of ORMs, and built one many years ago, for Java, (it solved the N+1 problem). It

I agree that the if-less solution is more elegant, but I was surprised at the way it was achieved. I was expecting to see head implemented as an IntListItem. I.e., an empty list would be just the head IntListItem, with next = NULL, and valu

No, I was unclear. Just after I had the problem with the Galago, the Darter came out It way my choice to get a repair, or to return the machine and buy something else. Since I ALSO didn't like the 4k screen on the Galago, I opted for t

What System76 lacks in build quality, they make up for with absolutely stellar support. I started with a Galago, that had a slight screen defect, (slightly yellow on one side). And I didn't like the 4k resolution. They offered me a cho

This gets into the technical details more than I am able to, but I agree completely. I also have older eyes, and 4k was just unusable (on a Galago with a 13" screen). I could have scaled down by a factor of two, but that was too coarse

A poll's choices are normally arranged along a spectrum. I'd expect most likely at one end, and least likely at the other, with null values ("don't know") at the end.

Apple has lost me as a computer customer -- crappy keyboards, touchbar, increasingly locked down software, price. I'm on a System 76 laptop, running Pop OS, and I'm very happy with it.

I can relate to this, in a number of ways, including the complete inability to self-promote. Many years ago, I had an idea for some software, so I left my job and worked on it. (My wife was understanding and supportive.) I did not have a bu

tl;dr: Apple no longer builds computers. After 11 years of MBPs as my main computer, I left because of crappy hardware (keyboards, missing Esc and Fn keys). I'm now very happy on a System76 laptop running PopOS. With each new release o

I swore off HP products for a run of crap in the 2005-2010 era. What finally did it was a wireless printer. We got a new router, and I spent a couple of hours trying to get the printer to work again. I finally contacted HP support and the a

How is plugging a keyboard into an iPad all that different from plugging a monitor into a Pi 400? I left Apple for the hardware (butterfly keyboard, touchbar), and stayed away because of the software.

I may be fuzzy on this, it's been a long time. But isn't by-name a special case of passing a function? (And then referencing the parameter in the called procedure invokes the function.)

I agree, I think football is going to go away. The now apparent risk of brain injury is one reason. But another major factor is political, starting with the kneeling protests. This caused football, like so many other things to split along p

I prefer that they don't have it either, but that's not a choice. But if every garage in the state has access to this data, it seems like a much bigger risk.

The only thing holding me back from a yes vote is the availability of detailed location data to 3rd parties. Can a mechanic sell this data? Can it be subpoenaed by police?
