Really, just use words that describe the concept. "White male" has a very specific inherent meaning. Don't use it to describe something completely different, like racism or sexism.

But couldn't the type system guarantee a sufficent subset of all the possible interactions with the api? Like, you can't determine the halting problem for a turing complete language, but you can for s more restricted language.

Most of the tricks break down as soon as you try to use them for anything. They solve a very specific problem each, and are not composable. Flexbox is at least a bit sane.

Well, with the last release, typescriot supposedly can compile plain js. https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript/wiki/What%27s-new-in... That should make it simple to treat ts more strict than js.

Since this is a brand new feature that isn't even accepted into the language yet, it obviously can't be made default. If they decide to make it the default behavior, there would need to be a period where the old bahavior is deprec

Once wasm supports some access to the gc (on the roadmap), It should be feasible. You wouldn't reimplement the entire runtime, but reuse functionality (like the gc) from the js runtime.

DonHopkins pointed out that wasm will eventually support serialization of arbitrary js. So you wouldn't need to include the js runtime at all, but still get a much quicker download and parsing. https://news.ycombinator.com&#

Interesting. But then it wouldn't really be compilation, but parsing + serialization. I guess the distinction is rather pointless.

That will soon not be true. Exposing the js gc is on the roadmap. ...which will also make it feasible to use other gc:ed languages without shipping an enormous runtime.
