Good luck with Thailand. The military junta is close to instituting MITM on all internet communications.[1] They don't even care that it will break online banking and every other business that relies on secure communication. I guess di

I wish that was true. I maintain a site for a manufacturers representative company. We want to include news from the manufacturers but few of them provide a feed. For a while I ran a "feed" created by scraping their news pages. Of

I actually took an Esperanto class when I was a kid. I'm old now, so that was a long time ago, and it never went anywhere in all the intervening years. I have now learned a tonal Asian language and I don't see how Esperanto would

I'm having trouble following the jump from proxies for love to the practices of Buddhist monks. Monks don't own anything (except for their robes and alms bowl) and don't prepare their own food (and don't do many other th

Where do they still do that? I live in a developing country (some people call it third world) and the private hospitals here have been using all electronic medication ordering and fulfilment for quite a while, at least since 2009[1]. Doctor

This is exactly the same stuff going on in Thailand. Post something on Facebook the gov doesn't like and receive a 6 years[1] to 60 years[2] prison sentence. The new cybercrime billed was just announced with harsh penalties for posting

Agree. They are running a business so can charge if/what they want. I just think they were a little clumsy how they made the transition. It was particularly annoying for people mid-way through a specialization to find out that the rest

I feel somewhat the same. I took a couple Udacity courses that were great and quite a few from Coursera. Coursera's free offerings are now partially gutted by restricting non-paying students from taking tests and submitting assignments

That's different. The US gov isn't doing all that to their own citizens. So it's ok. At least that's how the US gov and a lot of US citizens feel. And the rest of US citizens don't care enough to do anything about i

Yeah, I guess those are pretty good labels. I looked for a succinct definition of Corporatism: "the control of a state or organization by large interest groups." That happens in every economic system, not just capitalism.

After seeing how a number of Japanese acquaintances live, I've concluded the lack of personal space is a kind of paucity that makes them very poor. Barely room for a couple with one child to keep the tiniest amount of personal belongin
