Thankfully, all Chrome extensions can at least have the source viewed. The .crz file type for Chrome extensions is actually a .zip file, so the code can be inspected. If it's obfuscated this doesn't mean much though.

You'd think that, but the US has about 724 deaths per 100,000. In a county with fewer than 10,000 people that leaves only about 72 deaths per year. Loving County in Texas has 112 residents. "35 counties have a population under 1,0

Yes, this is correct. Especially with how extreme the values are within the clusters (like in Kentucky), there is almost no chance they occurred by sample-size variance. Sample-size variance might explain some of those little counties with

One possible partial explanation for this is the same reason why the Bill Gates Foundation wasted a bunch of money fostering small high schools. Smaller high schools were some of the best performing schools...but also some of the worst [0].

For example, I once knew a site was using A/B/C/D testing to derive a demand curve for their product and just kept wiping my cookies until I got the product for 1/3 the cost.

This is absurd. However, I don't think there is a huge market for 10Gbps Internet is the suburbs of a relatively small city like Chattanooga. That number seems to be used more to highlight the absurdity, but I question it's validi

There's a similar issue with finance: someone anywhere in the world can execute stock market trades from a computer. But as a practical matter in the US 90% of trades are executed in a few blocks from each other.

The FBI recently stopped accepting FOIA requests online and now online accept them via fax and snail mail. They did it deliberately to reduce the number of requests.

How so? It's a slight exaggeration, but fundamentally correct. Commodity monies would hardly be worth anything without their additional value as a medium of exchange.

All money is fiat money. I have no more inherent reason to accept an ounce of gold for my sandwich than a $20 bill. The only value the gold has for me is the expected value others place upon it, which is also the only value I have for a $20

There's also a lot of people who think they have a little bit of knowledge when it comes to economics. That's usually much more dangerous than knowing nothing at all about the subject. Markets do set interest rates on assets. The

The markets do set interest rates on assets. The discount rate is just the rate of loans the Fed offers. The markets have decided to base their rates on the discount rate. Voila, the markets are at work! I suppose letting the architects of
