I think it's a fantastic idea. I've oftentimes looked at the last commit date on a project and thought "Okay, is this abandoned, or has the owner just not pushed in a while?" Github might also offer the ability to indicate the new canonical

Having done both PHP Zend Framework deployments, which require mod_rewrite rules in each vhost, and Passenger deployments, which only require touching a text file to do restarts, I much prefer Passenger deploys.

I used to shy away from haml due to the significant whitespace. This apprehension went away after I forced myself to use it on a few projects, and now I hate working without it, for all the reasons jgc mentions in his article. It's not quit

Is there a possibility things would be better if PHP was abandoned? Nope. Beginning coders write vulnerabilities until they're otherwise educated. In PHP these are SQL injection and XSS holes. In C they're buffer overflows. Of course thi

Exactly that. Anyone can keep cool and be the fun boss when everything's aces, but the real test of a leader is how adversity is handled.

So I've got that you don't mind where or what your devs are doing so long as the tasks get completed, which is awesome, and that you can't do long vacations with no warning, which is reasonable. What's your stance on long vacations with w

I'm curious, does this ever snowball into a bunch of people emailing in with hardship stories asking for free licenses? It seems like it would, and that's the standard counter-argument: "If we give it to you, we have to give it to anyone, a

Can't answer for Quora, but I know why I'm not: activation energy. My team and I know MySQL pretty well, and we can stand by our decision to use it. PostgreSQL we can't. It's not the most sound technical reasoning.

I'm doing the same thing right now, and I'm approaching it the same way I learned to code in the first place: look at something someone else has done and try to duplicate it. This is a good starting point but a horrible end point.

For me, the Magic Mouse gets one thing horribly wrong: ergonomics. I use a computer at least eight hours of the working day, and potentially much more than that. If I can't be comfortable using a device, it doesn't matter how awesome it is,

I never understood the purposes of the "perfectly valid by the RFC" email regex. You may be able to with 100% accuracy say that something should be an email address, but you'll never be able to tell if it's a valid account on the server,
