No power infrastructure is either quick or cheap. I would think a subsea interconnector would be quicker to build than an offshore windfarm (as there are fewer components - no turbines or structures, and even fewer cables!) The UK is leadin

You can transmit a lot of power long distances with HVDC systems. 2GW systems are in development (TenneT 2GW platform & 525kV DC cables) & HVDC interconnectors can be several hindered km long…

My understanding is that In any connector there are contacts and pins, the pins move a little each time the connector is engaged and disengaged making the pins eventually fail (or they could become damaged). In lightning connections the pin

Overall the cost may not be that much but the bigger shift is to electrification of heating instead of a gas burning boiler, as electrical systems can take advantage of power from offshore wind / solar etc. another way of looking at it

I'm not so sure. For a wind turbine a lot of maintenance can be done without any additional vessel / cranes. If you need to do a major component change you do it with a similar vessel to the ones which installed the turbine. For a

Maintaining subsea turbines is not a solved problem - they exist but none have been around a long time, and no large utility scale projects use them so no one has experience with a fleet of subsea tidal turbines. Static subsea structures ar

The chips run too hot under normal workloads to not have a fan. Not having a fan would reduce performance and make it not worth the additional cost for the ‘faster’ chip. My opinion is intel/amd are not incentivised to make silent

I got a sage (breville I’m the US) barista pro and love it, no heat up time as it uses a heat pump, great grinder and easy to clean. I make at least two coffees a day, every day for over a year and it’s never missed a beat.
