Leaking something to the press is an entirely different class of failure than a technical screw up.

Where is that? do you have hardware stores that sell electrical parts? Do you need a license to buy from them? I could understand needing a license to perform work for hire but stopping people doing their own work sounds unenforceable.

It's an extreme case, but that's kind of the point of Christmas, and the winter festivals it evolved from.

They are shaved down on a lathe at the end, then tested for conformance. The end product looked very 'high tech'. I don't know if the method has any significant effect on internal defects relative to the safer method though.

Alternatively, just store it naively and gzip. Or use a sparse array. Or, best, don't do anything until storage size is an actual, measured bottleneck

My goog office has many trans engineers. They're very good at their jobs. I guess they might not want to work in an office designed by you, either now or at some stage in their transition. You'd be missing out on their talent.

> the work required to avoid them And that's the rub, it was a _lot_ of work. It's nice to see it can be done, but few sites will have the time or inclination.

Tom Wheeler has done his job just fine, and not shown any preference to his old industry. For all we know Obama made a great choice based on his character.

This seems a little bit like 1) Draw two circles. 2) Draw the rest of the owl. I don't see that TDD is helping 'form' the algorithm at all. The format of the input and output, sure, but the core intellectual leap seems glosse

In the short term, yes. In the longer term, they're subsidising kick starting a market that can only come down in price once the volume increases. Some good ideas need a bump through the 'chicken and egg' stage.

I wish people would stop bringing up the trolley problem as somehow relevant to self driving cars. In any situation,a car is going to brake as hard as possible while maintaining control, and only serve if there's no way to stop and a c

The graph of epipen pricing over time at the bottom of the article is jaw dropping. "Did we get in trouble yet? No? Add another 10% then". Only imaginary books on Amazon have price curves like that.

I had exactly the same problem with OSX - all other devices were fine but my macbook would drop packets after 30 seconds or so. Only fix seemed to be a new router. No problems since.

Web apps are too complicated to rely on form input changes as a stand-in for user state. Good idea about the space/enter thing, I'll file a bug.

I'm glad this guy knows so much about how search engines work. He should start one, it sounds easy! He just has to map each query to the single, unchanging answer that's the same for everybody!
