Downloads used in infrastructure... VSCode Extensions, Github repos, PyPI, NPM, etc. all need to be scrutinized. Open source at least has the option to audit; closed source (or "closed build" stuff like 7zip) is at far higher risk

I agree it's not good but being realistic: I'd be far less worried about the Australian government stealing/selling customer data, using my servers in a botnet, using my servers to spread malware.. etc. Mainland China, Russia

GitHub has a lot to lose if it was leaked that they were knowingly facilitating backdoors behind the scenes- many pay for the convenience and trust. By the same standard, what are the repercussions for these random fly by night accounts? Ju

Probably a backdoor. Repositories controlled by accounts based in mainland China and Russia are always a risk- it's too easy for a dictatorship to force something to happen even if the authors themselves are trying to act in good faith

Big fan of the unification of systemd and podman. > https://mo8it.com/blog/quadlet/#too-many-files IMHO bad take- give people an option to consolidate build/orchestration into 1 file without relying on an

Hard ask considering there's effectively 2 Americas: only the scientific one using scaleable units like mg/g/kg, cm/m/km- everyone else using randomized trash... ft, mile, yard, inch, pound....

Agreed, surprisingly capable in 3.0 compared to latest krita or inkscape. Krita 5.3 is supposed to get a major overhaul for text as well (real time preview, on-canvas editing).

git needs built in handling of large binary files without a ton of hassle, it's all I ask. It'd make git universally applicable to all projects. mercurial had it for ages. svn had it for ages. perforce had it for ages. just keep t

Auto-commit of large files and no way to un-bloat your repo is a showstopper for me no matter how good the DX might be. Large file handling needs to be sane in any new VCS, IMHO, as this is a main failing of git (..without the extra legwork

Sublimes' skeleton is excellent- Python extensions are a pleasure to write compared to VS Code. HOWEVER it desperately needs a UI/UX polish pass to stay competitive: * Drag and drop in the sidebar folder list. * Drag and drop tab

> Large file support built-in You've got my attention. How does "bringing 2 copies into 1" (aka merge) work? For big media files, lock / last timestamp is OK. ...but is there anything that helps merge changes in text?

Sugar does not satiate effectively for the calories. It's too easy to over eat sugar and carbs yet still be hungry, nutritionally deficient. It's why Ozempic is effective- one feels satiated even if deficient.
