They occupied Cambodia for 11 years, so it's a stretch to say they were adamantly against the idea of foreign interference. Khmer Rouge were nasty to their own civilians, but so were the Viet Cong, especially early on in the conflict

I enjoyed the read but it stopped short, and I think people in the west too readily latch on to the "anti-colonialism" part of the 30+ year Vietnam war. Certainly fighting the French was motivated by this, however the last 20 year

Agreed, this is/should always be the deal basically - "here's a bonus so you stay while we transition" is the only reason many folks stay post aquisition. It should not be revokable, especially last minute.

I agree that them becoming big and successful trends them toward mediocre products and quality, though also enables big jumps like Apple Silicon too.

Not defending Apple which I have my annoyances with, but at some point a company can saturate its area of focus and expertise and do well in it. Apple is really successful, and so what's the problem exactly? They try some new products

We didn't have an automated pipeline since the UX team wasn't really tech savvy enough to dive into detailed styles, so we relied on recurring syncs every 2 weeks. The DS changes tended to be slow and incremental from the UX side

Yes this basically why we used Bootstrap. The components and patterns UX wanted to use were a close match for Bootstrap's components, aside from colors, fonts, etc which we then adjusted.

Kids are a lot of work but I'll say that of my multiple middle aged siblings, the only one with regrets is the one who chose to have no kids.

Not to nitpick terminology, but I don't think it's helpful to equate "design system" with component library. A design system is the design tokens used to describe an organization's application(s), and largely indep

Truly private companies I respect their choice, but this just feels off that companies "stay private" yet you can wheel and deal in shares or similar with them, and they raise capital, etc. This is what the stock market is for.. y

This mentions the Fortune 500, and some of the financial companies I'm familiar with treat IT like janitors and have no qualms getting the lowest crap devs whom they can boss around. They don't want good devs and someone part of

That's not the point at all. But it is a bit like saying California high speed rail must be a glowing success because look at how much they've spent, etc.

Cool but I'd wish we measure the output vs how much we spend, as it's frequently dumped into a black hole with little to show for it.

No one has mentioned considering the military. An MIT grad could be an excellent candidate for an officer. Joining the military has been the way many young men and now women have got out on their own.

I think if you look at how most people lived, worked, travelled, communicated, educated, etc before WW2 - there was a huge improvement after the war that resulted in lots of development and economic opportunities for the average person.
