This has been repeatedly invalidated over and over and over again, and I'm really tired of being brought up as the excuse. First, you can simply prove that's not right empirically: start loading a large page, slap down your finger, scroll a

I don't quite think the Smalltalk one is fair. Smalltalk-80 definitely went to the extreme with everything-is-an-object, but PG is glossing over the history of Smalltalk-76 and Smalltalk-72, which betray the actual purpose: "Programming ac

There's some truth to that: JavaScript's execution model was Scheme, with the syntax swapped out relatively last-minute in response to corporate pressure. What I genuinely don't remember anymore is whether LiveScript shipped with the Schem

That particular font is a copy of Tolkein's personal handwriting, but you can find similar font design in any of a dozen Gaelic fonts. (Or probably find a font that's a copy of his handwriting, too; I don't know.)

Having read through their workflow diagram, I'm really unclear why they can achieve 90% efficiency. Isn't that basically just a Carnot engine? If not, why not? If it is, how can they possibly achieve 90% efficiency when the best Carnot-l

I think I'm missing something. Most of those shortcuts I gave are post-creation. You can use Trello fully from the keyboard; is there something specific not available that's bugging you?

I love both Trello and Remember the Milk, using them for different purposes, but keyboard shortcuts shouldn't be one of your reasons for one tool versus the other. Both tools allow you to specify most of the information you want right at c

I think theres a misconception that OS X is in a huge debt to FreeBSD, or even runs it at its core. Apple runs a custom kernel, no relation to FreeBSD, with a mixture of *BSD user land tools--more NetBSD than FreeBSD the last time I looked

I know the Super Scope relies on CRT scanlines to operate, but I was fairly sure that the NES' gun should work on any display that can change fast enough to black out all the screen except the targets, which (IIRC) go white with striped lin

I hate to just bust out some stats here, but: The average murder rate in the US is roughly 5.0 per 100,000 and falling [1]. NYC's population fluctuates between its 8.2 million residents in the evenings and closer to 10.5 million people dur

The bigger complaint I've got with App Engine, which I don't have with this, is that it's complete lock-in. If I write my app against Heroku, I can pick up and move to AWS, Rackspace, Azure, or even a local cloud such as vSphere, VMware Fus
