No, but that wasn't an SCM. ;-) More seriously, I believe that SourceSafe was maintained on Microsoft's fork of Perforce, but I don't honestly know, nor do I have contacts at this point who'd be able to find out.

They demoed this at //build/ last year...and then it never actually happened. I have no idea why. I assume it's coming, but have no idea when, at this point.

If any SVN dev truly believes that svn is better than Git in any technical sense then I wouldn't trust the engineering judgment of that developer. Hi. Small-time Mercurial contributor and Kiln founder. I use both Git an

Projects are allowed to use Git instead of Subversion, and there's a workflow in place, as noted in the ticket. Many projects have moved, and many haven't. They seem fairly undogmatic in that aspect.

I also literally know no SCM, ever, that was not maintained on itself, except insofar as we might be able to have an epistemological discussion about early versions of CVS v. RCS. Bitkeeper, Mercurial, Git, Subversion, Perforce, tla, Monti

It's this kind of hard-hitting investigative journalism with a no-holds-barred approach to getting the facts completely right that keeps me coming back to CNN for all of my news.

Goat ( https://github.com/mediocregopher/goat ), which isn't especially well known, does a lot of this in a more palatable way. I prefer using it when I don't need to edit/tweak my dependencies.

People have no real problem with languages that compile to C or JavaScript, so I'm not really convinced that's the problem as such. The lack of source maps/#line pragmas in Java didn't help, I'm sure, but these are

Kotlin's brilliance is how much less it's trying to do. It's truly narrowly focused on fixing what's broken in Java—not introducing an entirely new language that happens to compile to the JVM. That'll make adopt

I'm not familiar with the Ruby ecosystem anymore, so this is a genuine question: does the memory usage improvement here indicate a typical Ruby workload; if so, is this optimal, or are there profiling tools that can meaningfully help;

Exactly; that's the problem. The usual correct way in Windows of calling the function with `NULL` to get the length, then allocating the buffer and passing it back in, is wicked annoying with path names, so most developers simply don&

So can NTFS. In fact, you've been able to create paths with up to 32k-character file names per node since Windows NT 3.1. This is even available from Win32, and has been for a very long time: simply prefix your path with \\?\ and y

The biggest problem is that Go's garbage collector is conservative and slow. Add in that I don't think Go's optimizer is yet as good as HotSpot's, and you've got the recipe for those benchmarks.

Not yet. And even were Dart ratified, the answer would still be the same as it is today: you can use Dart if you cross-compile it to JavaScript, or if you only care at all about Chrome users. Both are fine, but they mean that, for you, Da

They can't change in a given repo unless you use history-modifying extensions. They do differ between repos. Most modern third-party tools, including Kiln, hide them by default for this reason.
